Untamed Pellucidar - a Back of Beyond in Hollow Earth Book
« on: June 27, 2023, 03:22:10 AM »
While on yet another research spree into the Back of Beyond I stumbled upon a curious book about RCW expanding into the Hollow Earth: Untamed Pellucidar

It's a relatively new book (2018) taking place in Edgar Rice Burroughs's Hollow World - Pellucidar (although it does reference the 1915 Russian Hollow Earth novel - Plutonia). I haven't read the book, but it seems like it might be a half decent pulpy romp that expands all the Back of Beyond action into a Hollow Earth setting. I will add it to my list of things to read as I love the Hollow Earth trope.

It might be a fun idea for a pulpy BoB campaign, especially with the Mongolian Agartha and the Tibetan Shangri-La often being "pulpified" into Hollow Earth in popular media.

That sounds like a wonderfully ridiculous idea.  lol

It would work as a decent conceit to bring in just about anything you wanted for a fun BOB-SF campaign.   I'm quite liking the idea of Bolsheviks vs Dinosaurs!

Hollow earth was a surprisingly popular idea in the 1920s, and while we all know Jules Verne, there were many other hollow earth stories written afterwards into the 1930s and 40s, even into the 50s a little (though by then it had lost most of its desire, since the Nazis had gone so hard into those tails, and the scientific discoveries of plate tectonics). Lol I have a hollow earth story-concept up on my website, and I call the hollow earth caverns 'Vernian Chambers', split into three different eras: the Vernian era, the 1920s and then modern stories.
