Cavemen Google-fu fail - help for a historical newbie
« on: June 28, 2023, 08:24:17 PM »
Hi,

I'm looking to get into Tribals, using cavemen/prehistoric figures. I'm torn between 28mm and 15mm (as the model scale is irrelevant to the game), but my Google-fu is letting me down, and when I search I either get incorrect results or linked to smaller sites where the lack of a search function makes it difficult to find anything.
Also ideally looking for sites that are UK-based, or at least easy to buy into the UK (a couple I saw had lots of extra hoops to jump through).

Ranges I know of:

28mm:
Steve Barber
Victorius
Copplestone Casting
Arcane Scenery and Models

15mm
Irregular
Rebel minis
Khursan

Any major ones I've missed? Apart from a brief dabble with some Vikings, this will be my first proper excursion out of the realms of sci-fi and fantasy, so I'm not really well versed in historical ranges.

Also for 28mm:
- Bob Murch's Pulp Figures
- Acheson Creations still has some listed on his website here:
https://achesoncreations.com/index.php/products/primaevil-designs/28mm-humanoids
- Lucid Eye

I have all the ones listed above and from the other suggested post. I feel that they all blend well together as separate tribes. I made tribes based on their clothes (sort of)
- Bear Clan
- Sabre Clan
- Mammoth Clan
- Rhino Clan
- Stick Clan (ones that had very little clothes and limited weapons - sticks, not even sharpened). These are the guys I give to use who have disappointed me in some way...just kidding!!

Regards,
Hitman

I do Tribal in 15mm.

Acheson used to do some excellent Neanderthals but I'm not sure what happened to them.

I am using Eureka 15mm Hawaiians as my Denisovans and Magister Militum 10mm cavemen as Homo Floresiensis. The 10mm cavemen could also do as Homo Naledi.
There are 100 types of people in the world. Those who understand binary and those who can work from incomplete data.

There are some useful items in Copplestone Castings in 15 mm - with some adaptation.  A bit later than Stone Age but can be made to work.

Acheson Creations closed down last I heard - no idea if their products went anywhere else. They had some nice stuff so a sad loss if gone for good.

A great need in 15 mm for women and children and old folk for cave folk - berry pickers, flint knappers, etc.  Could also use more megafauna in 15 mm.

Check out Mick Yarrow or MY Miniatures, not the greatest sculpts but a variety of options not found anywhere else in 15 mm.

Splintered Light Miniatures has some useful animals in 15 mm. (US firm)

And check out CP Models, https://cpmodels.co.uk/product-category/15mm-ranges/ for some useful terrain items from Crom's Anvil in 15 mm.  There are also some figures that might be useful.

With all the listed 15 mm stuff in this thread, you can do a pretty nice set up - and have a "larger" table to play on by going smaller.  I have my stash set aside and waiting its turn in the painting queue.

How could I forget Copplestone and Crom's Anvil! My Homo Heidelbergensis tribe is a mix of Copplestone Picts and Crom's Anvil tribesfolk.

Copplestone's Northlander characters pack will provide some Homo Sapiens shaman/ non-combatant types, if I ever get them painted. Not sure what to do with the armoured types.

Copplestone's wolves and bears make for some interesting opposition to the various humans and pre-humans.

Dark Art Studios do a small group of essentially three, but with various weapon options:

By the way I think the naked German light infantry are by Wargames Foundry.  Warlord Games make a similar pack in their "Hail Caesar" range entitled "German Fanatics". A good call by Nervisfr.

For something a little different check out Eureka Uk for a nice range of Denisovans in 28mm. They are under their Tribal range.
I'm not a mercenary. Killing's more of a hobby for me.

Here’s a good starting list for 15mm:

https://stevepugh.net/VTT/dino/15mm-dinosaurs-and-other-prehistoric-miniatures/

Also:
- Rebel Minis has some Cavemen and Monkey Boys:
https://www.rebelminis.com/pulpadventures.html

- Splintered Light Miniatures has a Bear Clan that could be painted as having leather leggings:
http://www.splinteredlightminis.com/bearclan1.html

- Copplestone Castings has fantastic looking Cavemen (“Picts”) and Barbarians:
https://www.copplestonecastings.co.uk/list.php?cat=18&sub=41&page=1
https://www.copplestonecastings.co.uk/list.php?cat=18&sub=9&page=1

- For tropically attired cavemen … I’ve been talking my time putting small loincloths on all the variants in this QRF set:
https://quickreactionforce.co.uk/product-category/qrf-freikorp15-pre-1900/qrf-freikorp15-pre-1900-koori/

- Acheson Creations might still have a few Neanderthals left.  Email them:
https://achesoncreations.com/index.php/products/primaevil-designs/prehistoric-mammals
http://theminiaturespage.com/news/1821135236/

- Khurasan Miniatures has several sets of cinematic cavemen in their Fantasy section:
https://khurasanminiatures.tripod.com/15mmfantasy.html

Let me know if you need any additional pointers, particularly in 15mm.
