Rosebud 28mm
« on: July 03, 2023, 09:46:26 PM »
28mm Rosebud battle, run by Josh Ruhbottom using ''TMWWBK' rules. A back and forth affair w/ a narrow US Victory, due to the withering long fire of the US  Infantry on left and sacrifice of the Shosone and Crow allies. Fun game ,rules flowed quickly and bloody. Figures were ''Old Glory'',''Artizan'' ,''Rafm''and ''Foundy''We also had 'Rosebud'' author ''Paul Hedren in attendance, who lives here in Omaha. Great book on thee battle where he was a Park Ranger.

Nice.  Can you share the figure order of battle used, please?  This is what I call 'the better battle' as opposed to Custer's Last Stand at Little Big Horn, much more balanced and could go either way.

I have a theory that if Rosebud didn't happen then the whole of the 7th gets wiped out at Little Big Horn, all 12 companies, because the natives are much better supplied with ammunition not used at Rosebud.  Love to hear the author's response to that.

One anachronism in the photos it seems, maybe.  Weren't all the wagons left behind at an earlier camp sometime before the battle?

Fifteensaway - interesting point and would the Crow/Shoshone who made such an impact at the Rosebud have attacked a village the size of the one at Little Bighorn?

Great looking game - we refought Rosebud using MWWBK and our own house rules back in 2021, it was a close run thing and looked spectacular. Think there’s a post and some photos here somewhere!

Here some other photos of the game.  FYI the vast majority of these figures were painted by Jurgen Olk. Hey Jurgen I actually have about 40 more mounted Indians that need painted.  We played this game twice and used a force morale system and if I remember each side has won once.

Also credit needs to go to S. Walker from the TMWWBK facebook page who developed the awesome plains war supplement that was utilized for this game.   Highly recommend it.

"the wagons r there beecause I painted them so I was going to use them". Well, that's plenty good enough reason to include them as far as I'm concerned.

However, I did double check and there is a statement saying Crook left all his wagons behind.  Of course, "all of his wagons" might not have included an ambulance or two.  But by my understanding, no wagons.

Afraid I've abandoned Facebook and long forgotten my password, even my "name" as used on the site.  No big matter.  I will almost certainly be using Rank and File rules when I get my setup ready for Rosebud.  Assuming I ever do get there.  I estimate if I do I will be able to do it at about a 1:4 ratio of figures to man.  Yes, I have that many figures; and, yes, I am that nuts!   lol. Need to paint A VERY LOT OF FIGURES to get there.  Might not even need to recycle the Indians!  :o

All of my units are 12 figures, cavalry, infantry - foot or mounted, and the tribals.  I even have at least 48 wikiups/teepees to recreate all of the camp circles at Little Big Horn and plan to paint, to some degree, the natives in proportion to their numbers at that Greasy Grass battle.  For Rosebud, I added enough mounted infantry to have the ten cavalry companies and the five mounted infantry companies.

As others have said, good to see more photos of the game if available.  Oh, and for those interested, the game master did PM me but didn't have the OOB for the game at hand.  I will just fall back on the OOB I do have.
