Messing around with something different, ACW Union Infantry from Baccus that I got from Captain Darling last May. I took Napoleonic Therapy's method and added a few highlights. Everything is Coat d'arms paints. I think this is what I'll be going forward with. Prime 'em black, base coat, and a highlight for most of the colors. No need for washes and if I'm careful they paint up quick enough

Dave, very nice. I have Baccus 6mm ACW armies and I used same painting method as you. Yes you can take far more time but I found this gave a good result for a fairly low time investment. Personally I use quite a light-coloured static grass/flock as that contrasts quite well with the dark blue and gray. What rules do you plan to use?

Ya, I'll likely use a light green flock mix as well.

I'm going to be basing them 2 strips to a 3/4"x1/2" base, and then making sabots for Altar of Freedom to start (2.5"x1.25"). That'll let me do Fire & Fury and Longstreet as well.

Those look great!  :-*

Don't be too concerned about perfection as the real effect jumps out at you when you start gathering a large force.

Dave, We've also tried Altar of Freedom and they work quite well. I made up some movement/firing measurement sticks so people didn't have to use tape-measures and they helped. All I would say is that many of the battles in the scenario books need a lot of terrain!

Ya, I'm finding that's the catch with a lot of historicals, lots of terrain with a significant portion of it being period specific. Keeping scales between, 6, 10 and 15 lets me reuse trees, hills and water. But the rest is a little less forgiving. Plus painting terrain never seems as rewarding as the troops.

Dave, at least with ACW you don't need many buildings. WW2 is a nightmare in multiple scales. I can recommend the buildings produced by Leven Miniatures. Very well cast and reasonably priced.

I painted up some more Union infantry. Six strips took me about 3 hours, which isn't horrible for me. I also laser cut up my bases and movement trays this week too.

Lovely!  :-*

Amazing how the quality of 6mm miniatures has progressed since I first got into the hobby around 50 years ago.  :D

Thanks Ray. Ya, I'm pretty happy with the quality of these sculpts. I got some of Baccus's AWI and they were nowhere near these.

Finished up another brigade this week. I'm on the hunt for more Baccus skirmishers as I want to have 3 stands of formed behind three stands of skirmishers to make my units.

...

So like a firing line?  ie tightly packed into a line or acting as traditional skirmishers?  If the later you won't need as many as you can spread them out as you see fit.

Painting looks very nice btw.

The formed bases will have two formed lines on them, one behind the other. The skirmisher stands will have 2 skirmisher figures on them (6 figures per unit).

I finished up another two units this week. Three more to go, including some fun with flags, until I start basing them.

So will that be a division worth of infantry?
