The Relief of Baroness Natalie Ivanoff. This evening @RobJonesHistory and I are playing Scenario H from The Men Who Would Be Kings Colonial Ruleset. Can the 8 Nation Alliance prevent the capture of the Baroness by Boxer Forces loyal to Zhu Hongdeng 🧧

Boxer Rebellion Battle Report - The Relief of Baroness Natalie Ivanoff. For those familiar with the movie 55 Days at Peking, you will know of the relationship between the lady and Maj Matt Lewis. As a result, the game began with Lewis attempting to escort the Baroness to safety.

As Major Lewis begins to lead his US Marine Detachment out of the city square, the Boxers began to swarm onto his position from the western canal. To assist the Americans, a combined Japanese infantry and cavalry detachment enter the location from East.

Seeing the emerging threat in his intended escape route, Major Lewis orders his men to form a hasty defensive of the square, the Gatling gun cover the roads north. The Boxers hyped up on religious fervor, began charging at the double across the canal and towards the barricades.

As the Americans see a horde of Boxers charging at them from numerous streets and alleyways, Major Lewis decides to fallback into the square and form line to hopefully deliver a crashing volley. Meanwhile, more Japanese Infantry thread their way through the Imperial Gardens.

The Boxers continue to mass along the canal, including the Red Spears who are deadly close combat specialists. Having dropped the first wave of Chinese, the Americans bounce back, taking casualties along the way. More sneaky Boxers work their way into the northern streets.

Hearing the death screams of their comrades, a group of Boxers decide to approach the square via the cover provided by the large German Embassy Building. Following a volley from the Japanese infantry, their supporting cavalry prepare to charge the Boxer Horde. Bonsai!!

As the position was becoming desperate for the Americans defending in the city square, the British Naval Detachment arrived to a shout of hurrah!! The sailors were led by Sir Arthur Robertson aka David Niven (….or as suggested last night, it might have been David Jason 🙄).

The pressure was on the British to hold the position and protect Baroness Ivanoff from capture by the Boxers. Major Lewis was injured in an earlier assault but he was still in the fight with his standard bearer. Can the 8 Nation Alliance prevail and save the lady’s virtue?

A devastating charge by the Red Spears drove back the British Navy. In true Hollywood style, Major Matt Lewis threw himself forward into the fray in a final bide to protect his love. The Spears killed him but he did enough to weaken their will to fight, leaving the Baroness safe.

What a way to end the battle, our American hero sacrificing himself to save his love from capture. The Baroness poses here as a broken women💔, but safe with Sir Arthur Robertson. Extremely cinematic game with a fab ending, thank you @RobJonesHistory for making the trip to ShedHQ
