Back in 1995 there was a racing game called
Das Motorsportspiel, mainly sold and promoted in Essen games fair for a couple of years. It consisted of a printed paper track and a number of plastic H0 scale model racing cars by Herpa. There were also some plastic flags as markers and a few dice, which were cleverly used to simulate real racing thrill in an almost perfect way (if you're interested in it, you'll find it on Boardgame Geek).
You can hardly find a copy for sale nowadays, but I had fond memories of the races I ran more than 25 years ago. When one of my fellow gamers suggested to have another try, there was no hesitation and the game ignited the old engine once again. I started building dice and flags, printing race circuits and buying cars...
It weren't me, if I was satisfied with racing cars out of the box and of course I converted some H0 scale (1/87th) cars...
