Blood Feud At Vulture Creek
« on: August 12, 2023, 03:58:51 PM »
A return to Dardenell County for an other western gunfight, this time two feuding Mexican groups have caught up with each other at the two bit town of Vulture Creek.
The 'hombres from Jarvos' started at either end of town in two pairs, Felipe Reyes & Angel Reyes (father & son) were at the livery having just got off the stage while Emilio da Salvo & Raoul Julia had just ridden in and hobbled their horses but were delayed while Emilio dashed to the outhouse  :-[
The 'hombres from Mochila' were already in town and had just finished drinking at the low rent cantinas at the livery end of town, Gilberto Lopez & Nestor Oceteva came out of the back door of theirs while Miguel Galindo & Michael Ariza stpped out of the front door of theirs dead opposite the livery fence and caught a glimpse of the Reyes' - looks like we got a gunfight  lol

It was Galinda & Ariza who got things started, Ariza moved across to the fence, took up a position and let fly with his shotgun at the Reyes as they were moving away, Galinda sprinted up the street to the gunshop and took up a position there.

Last one was the wrong photo!  lol lol
The gunfight around the livery was a game all of itself. After two blasts from the shotgun and having hit nothing Ariza said the Spanish equivalent of "to hell with this!" and drew his revolver and moved round the fence to exchange shots with the Reyes ultimately putting down both father and son. Galindo fired from the cover off the gunshop but didn't hit a damm thing although he could claim he distracted the Reyes (maybe  ;) ) The Reyes got off some shots and frightened Galindo a bit but it just wasn't their day  :( :'(
Footnote; once the shooting had died down a act of utmost savagery took place when Galindo & Ariza inspected the bodies of the still breathing Reyes', Ariza cut both their throats and took "souvenirs"  :o

Back on main street sheriff Tom Morgan & deputy Sy Matthews were about to have their nice quiet day ruined.
The roar of Ariza's shotgun sent Lopez & Oceteva running to the sound shouting "Qui pasa?" - Ariza later claimed all the shouting put him off his aim  lol
This was all a bit unfortunate as the noise also bought the law out onto the boardwalk of their nice warm office just as da Salvo Julia were making their way down the opposite sidewalk, guns drawn. This bought the inevitable challenge from Morgan to "drop your guns!" and it all went kind of sideways....
Da Salvo recognised Oceteva in the middle of the street and fired and missed, Oceteva cursed "madre dios!" returned fire and then scarpered for cover.
Back with the law Morgan realised these guys just weren't listening and so opened fire on Julia who was nicely positioned at the corner of the saloon while deputy Matthews took his time to aim his trusty shotgun across the street at da Salvo who was trying to use a civilian as cover from Oceteva; it was a risky shot but he took it..... and da Salvo dropped in the dust.

The remainder of the game was the shootout with the law. Julia calmly worked the lever arm of his Winchester as he took measured shots at the sheriff and his deputy, later supported by the bleeding da Salvo lying in the street.
The law split their fire between Julia and Oceteva, never getting so much as a scratch on Julia but Matthews did put Oceteva in the ground. However lady luck wasn't smiling on the forces of law and order and having wounded the sheriff twice Julia finally shot him dead with his last shot.
Realising he would need some time to reload and there being no sign of the Reyes, Julia slinked back to the horses and made for the border, a price now on his head.

The rules were the old school Western Skirmish set which still play well some 50 years on and a good spirit pervaded the game, we even had tea and cake in the garden afterwards  :)
Thanks to all who played.

To add some more pictures of the game.
228 = The Town
229 = Good Guys leaving the Out-House, 'I'd give it an hour if I was you'
230 =Bad Guys leaving the less reputable Saloon.
235 =Good Guys taking on the Law.  'I shot the Sherriff & I also shot the Deputy'
         Could have a song there.
236 = Meanwhile it's business as usual for Young Abigale as she endeavors to
attract custom from the Saloon balcony.

Meanwhile at the other end of Town.

The action centered around the Black-Smiths Yard.
The rate of fire was high, the accuracy though was not.

241 =
It might have stayed a noisy, not lethal, gunplay but a Bad Guy
snuck around the Black-Smith's building and back shot a Good Guy.
He then downed the other and...
with great villainy slit both their throats as they lay helpless!  :o

Funny you should mention it. This 'Under Construction' building was raided
for its timber, as so many coffins were needed.

Always fun with a Western Gunfight.
The most amusing point was when Ian (due to Dave failing a late fitness test
& being unable to play) playing both the 'Law' AND two banditos shot it out
with himself.
 Fair play to him. :D

The very enjoyable tea & cake on the veranda
was a nice contrast to the violence of the game. :)

Enjoyable shoot um up.
My couple of Mexican chaps, shot up a father and son combo.

Shotguns being fired through holes in fences don’t work, when you roll poor dice.  :o

So, I snuck round the back of them.

My other man tried to keep them pinned down.

The father and some combo came out shooting.

I eventually got behind them, and started unloading my pistol on them.
Downing the younger one first.

Then downing the father.

At this stage, I called out the local undertaker to size them up .lol

I finished them both off, and then headed into the centre of town, to see what was going on at the sheriffs place.

Finally wandering off into the sunset.

Rules worked well for a 50 year old set.
It helped that two of the players had used them in their earlier years.

If you named them, I missed it.  What rules did you use?

Are they the spiral bound rules, a buff coloured cover? If so I still have my copy but not used it for a while.

Looks like you had a lot of fun. I couldn't follow the action, but that's a western gunfight for you.  :D
Cheers

Couldn’t follow the action !
Let me summarise - Good Mexican bandits are already in town (drinking in the bars). Baddie Mexican bandits turn up. Goodie Mexican bandits shot and kill baddies Mexican bandits. Sheriff sits on porch and shots ANY Mexican bandits. THE END.  lol lol lol
