The Hereford 1938 Autumn Big Game 2023 ("Big Trouble in Little Hereford") will take place at the Yarkhill Village Hall, Herefordshire, from 10am - 5pm (doors open c.9.30am) on Saturday 7th October 2023. This is an "all play all bashathon" and full details of the scenario are up on the blog:

Colonel Winters is still down in London, shivering on the doorstep of the Soviet Embassy, at the final stage of his quest to avoid "repatriation and liquidation" at the hands of the NKVD following the "Disaster at Dinmore"....looks like he will try to persuade Ambassador Maisky that (now that all Winter's untrained Communist levies were lost at Dinmore), a more professional Presteigne Soviet army will soon take the field....

It looks like much fun was had. By the looks of things civil wars can be rather complicated. To be honest I was rather rooting for the nuns, but it seems the Mother Superior went out the way she would have wanted.

Having just read all 8 parts of the epic recounting of Big Trouble in Little Hereford, I’m glad to note that if anything, the madness has obtained a turbo-charged afterburner and reached new levels of insanity.

Congratulations to all involves and especially the divisors of the scenarios and producers of the table. It’s invidious picking out particular examples of magnificent fabulosity but The Big Men were an inspired creation.

As always, it reminds me what I’m missing by not being able to attend these days but it’s great to participate vicariously.

Doug you are always with us in spirit and through those wonderful dice you produced…not not the counter weighted to always score 6 versions…but the VBCW variants…a reprise appearance would always be welcome

Umpire Leadboy does a superb job seamlessly pulling random Scenarios together with a fantastic array of models he gathers from EBay among other sources…yes loved the Big men, both in terms of concept and models.

For my bit part it is both challenging and expensive to try and emulate the grandeur of tables that Giles the Zog (of this parish) allowed us to fight across in years past!  Photos show that more work is needed on both roads and fields!🫣
