I played Swashbuckler last week for the first time in probably 35 years and we all really enjoyed it.  I bought my latest copy a few years ago with the intention of turning it into a miniatures game using my 3 Musketeers collection, but never got started on it.

So, today I got stuck in:

Basic board laser cut out of 4mm ply in sections for storage (and because my laser cutter won't cut something over 2' square!) - uses 40mm squares.

I have still got to cut the shelving units but have done the Tables, Chairs, Stairs and Balcony (which I might redo at some point as not 100% happy with it).

Trying to decide whether to source 28mm Tankards or just use the counters as they will be pretty fiddly...

But ome good progress

Nice board and furniture.  Can you say where you got them from? I was only thinking about my own large collection of Redoubt Miniatures Three Musketeers figures this morning. It must be a sign!

Thanks

Thanks - I made everything myself.

Drawn up in Sketchup and then cut on my laser cutter.

Oh man this brings up memories! I still have Swashbuckler in a bin of other classic boardgames. I loved that the game sleeve was also the board.

What a great idea to try it with minis. I may have to dust my copy off!

Now just need to paint everything....

That looks very good already. You've given me ideas but it seems that game is hard to find and goes for high prices now. I don't suppose the rules are available somewhere online?

They are available here:

And the basic board for Swashbuckler is now finished with all the furniture.  I will add walls at some point...

And I made a box for it which holds all the board pieces, miniatures, dice and rules...

A very interesting project

Thanks - I was pleased as I actually managed to start a project, see it through and finish it in a week.

That is one amazing layout.  :-* Definitely brings back memories of playing the game. However, I think the mechanics are very dated. Pre-plotting your turn in a skirmish game as if they're little robots may work for RoboRalley, but as human beings, I was never really sold. I remember many times my swashbuckler merrily lunging and advancing towards an empty board because someone moved where I didn't expect them to...  lol

If the old rules sour on you after a couple playings, use it with another set of skirmish rules. Maybe Flashing Steel from Ganesha Games?

I quite like the programmed orders.

I am a big fan of Colt Express which uses a similar idea.

Swashbuckler is a boardgame and I like the structure of each round.
