I'm looking for Science Fiction pulpy/campy structures...
« on: November 11, 2009, 11:31:51 PM »
I recently caught the GAFDOZ bug and have decided to make a skirmish game based on these figures.  The thing is, I'd like to have a sort of space cantina thing, with lots of flashy, 1930's inspired "Flash Gordon" style sets-- big and rivety and silly looking.

Any suggestions or ideas?

Thanks,

Walt O'Hara

Welcome to the Club WaltOH. Be sure to scope out the frozen planet scenics in Hydra's store. There are good space pulp figures at wargames supply dump, (WSD) too.http://www.wargamessupplydump.co.uk/ For terrain, check out armorcast http://www.armorcast.com/ not a whole lot there but then there wasn't anything at all a little while ago. The original Flash Gordon serial was shot on old Frankenstein and Mummy sets at universal so feel free to scarf up some of those goodies. Hirst Arts http://www.hirstarts.com/ makes silicone rubber molds for casting stuff out of dental plaster. There is a scene where Flash Gordon topples a statue of the great god Tao on top of Mings marriage party and rescues Dale Arden. Its in the comic strip and the first serial, Bruce Hirst makes a mold in his Egyptian series which works quite well for that. But all the basic Hirst molds his schematic and even his Sci Fi (There is no Sci Fi like pulp Sci Fi the standard SF stuff can ruin the ambiance.)

The cantina full of aliens is a Star Wars thingie. Hydra, GAFDOZ, and WSD have single aliens and outfits like Reaper make the odd alien figure, so keep your eyes open.

Spacemans luck, Rocketranger 0990

If you'd like your cantina to be filled with alien patrons like in SW, Mega Minis has a set that's nice for that.

I have it and may even part with it if I can find it (I'm in the middle of a no-gaming period, and, frankly, I have a load of minis I don't know if I'll ever get around to using...)

Sorry for being vague.

In the film Bicentennial Man there was a red coloured building that was built under the Golden Gate Bridge.

I am sure it was called the Rupert Burns Building!

I have often thought about using it as the basis of a Space Opera gaming board.

If you have the film check it out - can anyone help with the name of the building - it was named after someone famous.

Found it!

Check out this site and the Rupert Burns Shop is about half way down.
