1860s(?) British officers' patrol jacket – lighter or darker lace?

I've got the officer figure from Perry BIF9 in the painting queue, and after doing up the base layer of the jacket in a dark blue I realised that I was confronting some conflicting information on whether the lacing ought to be black, or going the other way to a lighter and somewhat greenish shade of blue. Would this have simply been a thing where there was just arbitrary individual variation in whether the lace was lighter or darker, or are there differences by period and/or branch of service to account for?

Well, officers did purchase their own uniforms and kit, so variation is bound to have occurred.

This suggests that lighter might be the way to go with the frogging.
