1/200 Wings of Glory Additions- Zvezda Bristol Blenheim IVF

Slightly less wee planes!

Quick job of a Zvezda 1/200 Blenheim. It's a very simple kit with minimal detail, which I converted to roughly represent a night fighter variant, and add some variety to my mate's Wings of Glory fleet. Freehanding that canopy framing over the transparencies was fun...

The ventral gunpack is much too far forward, and I decided to forgo adding gun barrels in the name of simplicity. I swapped the far-from-brilliant kit roundels and tail flashes for better I-94 ones, and just used the kit codes; I can't find any squadron that used "FV", let alone any Blenheim ones, and couldn't see any way of combining the letters on the kit sheet to make any Blenheim nightfighter unit markings, so just used them as is.

Next step will be to make a more game-appropriate flight stand, and tee up the Ju-88 and five TBD-1s in the queue...

Proudly not painting Wars of The Roses since... ever

It looks great, especially the canopy.

I bought one of these, and it kind of annoyed me that they produced it in 1/200 when almost all of their other aircraft models are at 1/144. I thought at first that it was just so that the sprues would fit in a box of a given size, but their Fairey Battle is 1/144 and it's no smaller in dimension than a Blenheim.

All these models (1/100 tanks, 1/72 figures and guns, 1/144 and 1/200 aircraft) were intended for their "Art Of Tactic" gaming system. In this system, models are just tokens and their scale did not matter, what was important was that they fit into the dimensions of the hexagon. With the death of the company's founder, the development of the gaming system stopped (like other wargame projects), but the release of models on such a scale continued...
