What Minis could be used for D&D 4E "Shifters"
« on: November 09, 2009, 11:17:31 AM »
Dunno if there had been Shifters before, but we're going to play 4E and someone whats to play a Shifter:

Question is now: Who produces Minis that could be a Shifter? Either I'm too stupid to find them or Reaper don't have any. GW is also "shifterfree" .. anyone? Help! :)
Oh sure. Everybody's in favor of saving Hitler's brain, but when you put it in the body of a Great White Shark, ooh, suddenly you've gone too far

depending on what you have lying around or can scrounge, I'd suggest a Space Wolves head on a Warhammer Fantasy body that fits the character class (e.g. Chaos Marauder for a barbarian, Chaos Warrior or something for a paladin, Bretonnian or Empire infantry for a rogue/warrior type, Wood Elf for a ranger etc.)...

Yes, they were around in 3.5.

As for appropriate figures, any feral-looking guy should suffice, since they can choose to look feral or not.

The old Confrontation Spasm Warriors figures might do well (if you can find them...). IIRC they came two to a pack with both feral and non-feral versions of the same character.

There are the pre-painted plastic shifter miniatures from the Wotc D&D mini line.   ::)

As far as metal minis that haven't been mention yet, how about some of the reaper miniatures vampires?  Some might need a little greenstuff to feral them up a bit, but quite a few of them could be used as is; but with a brown pain job.

02221: Morrdha Vampire Lord - Would make a nice Warrior scholar shifter.
02290: Fenris The Pale - could cover warrior, barbarian or what have you.
03042: Morrdha, Vampire Noble - Another sculpt of this fella.  Pretty Feral looking, but with a book.
03383: Vampire Spawn (2) - Both of them would look pretty feral with the right paint job.

Female characters are easy, these gals work perfectly. Individual figures can be mail ordered.

I've not yet come accross a male figure I'd be happy with. Using a new space wolf head is a good idea though, I'll see which of my friends have bought some so I can have a look.
So many projects..... so little time.......

Having looked at the Space Wolf heads on the GW site, I'd say they're not really suitable. The faces are pretty normal and the hairstyles are..... rather "there's something about Mary" if you catch my drift....

The heads on the Terminators however are pretty good and might be usable assuming you can a) find one and b) they're not weird around the base to fit the big shroud in the armour.

The metal wolfen have great heads but they don't look too easy to remove.
