And the glorious general led the advance
With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss

Good article. My x3 Grandfather was there with Co.C 55th Illinois (under Sherman).

Nice! My wife's parents live in Lookout Valley in the shadow of the Mountain and my wife and I got married on Lookout Mountain itself.

Interesting, thanks for posting.
My wife & I visited Lookout Mountain while on holiday in the States.
It was one of the days when weather closed in & nothing was visible
from the top, so we spent a very nice half hour in a small Museum of
the Confederacy. Got soaked to the skin when caught in a downpour
walking the half mile from it to the funicular railway to rejoin the rest
of the tour group. Happy days.  :D

Sorry to hear you got soaked and fogged out. Years back I drove to the Waimea Canyon on Kauai, billed as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. I could just make out the railing of the road I was on. All else was socked in. At least it didn't rain.

Walking in Chattanooga, a New York transplant spotted me and my buddy, asked if we knew how to play bocce. We did and joined him and his buddy for a foursome. Who knew Chattanooga had bocce courts? Bocce is the Italian version of Petanque.

Thank you, but it didn't dampen our enthusiasm. Had a great time. :)
