A 6mm scale ruined factory
« on: December 03, 2012, 05:25:39 PM »
In response to Legion 1963's request, here's the thread.

This will be part of a larger project: I'm making the sort of modular game board which consist of small tiles placed next to each other, only I've taken it literally, and am using some old floor tiles for - er - tiles.

The board is aimed at the Epic 40K series of games, but I'm trying to keep the tiles as generic as possible, and thus suitable for steampunk or other more-or-less modern era games.

Tile 1 is all grassland (the cheap shot tile).
Tile 2 has several high rise buildings on it, and is assembled but not painted.
Tiles 3-5 will feature in the 'Build Something Contest', and are watery.
Tile 6 will be the Factory, which is big enough to cover most of the 8" x 8" tile.

STEP 1 - the thing was found outside, so I need to clean it THOROUGHLY. It's a drain cover, for heavens' sake!

And, wonder of wonders (yes, I AM lazy) - a photo of the raw material.
I'm using it upside down, with the top of the drain cover making a base.
The fuzzy object at the far end is Random's tail*; the beastie up front is for scale purposes, but it's not very good as it's a large mechanical spider thingy in 6mm scale the size of which is not easy to grasp! The edge of the tile beneath the factory is 8", and the factory is just a little bit wider (drat).
And here's the pic:

Browsing in the dungeon for roof parts, I unearthed an old find from a jumble sale: an Italian-produced plastic construction set for Wild West forts.

Note - I bought two sets, so this pic shows TWICE the normal contents. I believe these are out of production now.

Update - focussing on the 28mm scale Tesla cannon mentioned in Vanvlak's mug thread, and the dam for the build something competition. So the poor old factory is static at the moment. However, it IS part of the tile board system which goes with the dam, so it's still within focus.

I started work on this, having completed the 'build something' entry.
And in the meantime I found some serendipitous roof.
Pics (hopefully) soon.
