Quatre Bras game test
« on: October 06, 2023, 05:41:23 PM »
Gave a solo test drive to my Quatre Bras scenario for Bloody Big Battles. Details here https://corlearshookfencibles.blogspot.com/2023/10/quatre-bras-game-test-bloody-big-battles.html
And the glorious general led the advance
With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss

Splendid - it is a very interesting battlefield, captured perfectly by your map and this alone probably elevates the game to having the right feel. I thought it all went very well for a first game and for a scenario that is slightly hard to plan for die to all of the arrivals on the battlefield. While reading, I thought the French Cavlary had done rather well …. Until I read about their losses ….. there is still Waterloo to fight :-)

Thanks, Vincent, I did enjoy that. Looks like an ideal game for two players on a short evening. And of course it's a classic battle that everyone knows and wants to play.

Thank you, gents. Back in the day, with long-gone 25mm figures, we had 3 armies between us, British, Prussians and French. The French included every Guard regiment, the British were loaded with rifles, guards and highlanders. Even my Prussians had 9 battalions of line, 1 of grenadiers in full dress and 1 lonely battalion of Landwehr.

Now my 15mm Prussians have 6 line, 6 reserve, 9 Landwehr and 1 jaeger battalion. The French don't even have Guard light cavalry - line troops had to stand in. And the Brits have Dutch-Belgian, Nassau and Brunswick troops. Our approach has changed.
