Fantastic looking unit.  Hopefully the fence stays up and you get some uninterrupted miniature painting time.

Cheers guys!

...Hopefully the fence stays up...
Fingers crossed!

Finished a small orange grove that'll form part of a hermitage/small farm as a focal point on the table.

Thanks! I did somewhat overestimate the size of a 40mm tree next to a 28mm figure, though...  :D

First figure done for the new year. A sergeant of the 85th (Bucks) light infantry. Our man here has either been fortunate enough to acquire a fresh uniform issue or is newly arrived in a draft from home; many of his minions will be far less sartorially secure...

28mm Perry metal as ever.

Great-looking figure.  Is he biting off the end of a cartridge, or blowing a whistle?  I will say, that when I first looked at the photos, I heard the sound of a whistle blowing in my mind... :D

Thanks! Neither, he's having a fly fag!

Nah, it's a whistle. I initially thought he was cupping his hand to his mouth and shouting, it was only when I started preparing the figure I noticed he was blowing a whistle. It's not clear in these photos, but the sculpting of the fingers holding it is exquisite.

And as threatened, now we have a campaign-accurate "redcoat" of the 85th (the trades description people want a word...)

I like to have a broad range of shades of once-reds in my units, and just experiment with adding different colours to a base red. This one was shaded and highlighted with various greys. Likewise a good smattering of different trouser colours. This guy's a good 60 years ahead of the game, in khaki drill...

Yes - the lad firing his musket does indeed look good.  I like the look of his coatee!

They are metal Perry 28s. Ever my go-to!

Action on the Coa!

Last night we used Chosen Men to play a game based loosely on the skirmish at Barba del Puerco in 1810, wherein the British outlying picquets were assaulted by the French, with Ney looking to force passage into Portugal.

A most enjoyable game, which played out largely the way the real action went. In the end though, lead elements of the French were able to force their way through, albeit with casualties; the initial storming party of Young Guard Tirralleurs being wiped out by the main British picquet of the 44th in line, who were in turn served out by some judicious howitzer fire followed by a bayonet charge by the following French Légère unit (who also charged and bested a unit of British Hussars, to their undying shame...)

Couple more pics here-
