Will there be a Judy Davis figure to shoot at?
Em dezembro de '81
Botou os ingleses na roda
3 a 0 no Liverpool
Ficou marcado na história
E no Rio não tem outro igual
Só o Flamengo é campeão mundial
E agora seu povo
Pede o mundo de novo

Just adding some little bits to my scenery.

The concrete bus shelters are designed, drawn and 3D printed by Mark Wilson . I’m thinking decent cover against small arms in an urban environment ?

Definitely better at providing cover from small arms than from the elements, at least in my limited experience of bus shelters. :D

Funnily enough I'm building a bus shelter myself from plastic rod and clear blister plastic. Yours is definitely more baliistically resistant. Mine will be just set dressing although I do have U-Bahn station entrances for sneaky covered movement. Once done I'll have only the odd (and they are odd) 1980s style German phone booth and mail box to do for scatter plus maybe a bin or two. None of those would be worth hiding behind and the phone booths being bright yellow tend to draw the eye to them. I suspect the Germans learned little from 1945 when it comes to urban defence.  lol

These?

Those.

Sides are easy enough to cut from thin card but the roof shape is a bugger. Might be foam, might be putty, might be sanded back balsa. Trial and error.

I remember those well …. left some bodily fluids in at least two of those.

One in Detmold and  the other in Bergen!!

What scale are yours?

Well, I doubt you'll fit in mine and nor will 'Naughty Helga' the lass who kindly left her phone number on a card in the box and is apparently quite adept at massage. lol

28mm (ish). Well, they will be when I finish cutting them out and working out how to do the top.

The trouble with German stuff is that anything off the shelf is 1/87 and so there's a hell of a lot of time spent reasearching what something looks like 40 years ago and then either looking for something close as base or doing some scratchbuild plans. Most things end up being scrathchbuilt, even larger structures as there are very limited off the peg options. Still, I've made enough progress of late that I might add some stuff to my own thread and stop cluttering yours.

Clutter away my friend - we have great fun!

I look forward to seeing your efforts and I know that they will inspire me for next years project ..... Cold War 1980 ( I’ve deliberately chosen a pre IFCS era with steam gunnery and pre Chobham and TOGS ).

I’ll be bugging my mate Mark for 3D options on German street furniture so if you stumble across anything I will reciprocate with anything that I come up with.

I’ve still got tons of Faller and Fabri stuff as I started , may return, to do all this in 20mm

If I had my drothers, I'd probably do it in 20mm. More  the cost and availabilty of terrain and vehicles than anything but hey we love a challenge.

That said, I've not seen a 20mm range that excites me. In fact there's nothing out there that really betters the old soft plastic Matchbox 'NATO' paras. IMO at least in terms of sculpting quality.

I went with 28mm because I really liked the available figures and because I like to get multiple use out of things, it fitted better with my existing 28mm collection. Some of the Berlin buildings could be used for 1918  or 1929 and many of the other, smaller types can either find use in a West German village or town circa 1984 or a similar Czech village circa 1938.

If there was a printed range of 28mm German street furniture I'd be all over it like a cheap suit. Things I would like apart from the phone booths and post boxes would be a simple Imbiss stand. Doner Kebabs or Currywurst although I suspect there's something suitable out there, if not break out the placcy card. I've already made U-Bahn entrances, utlising the Peco subway sets for Berlin but wouldn't pass up a dedicated item. Actually I have tried interesting the German owner of a 3D printing company in making some along with a Checkpoint Charlie guardhouse old and new versions.

I've found a MAN bus suitable for the time and place it even is marked as Spandau line bus (hence the need for a bus stop)but it's shockingly pricey for a bit of set dressing. If I do take the plunge and buy that rather nice MDF Audi dealership I'm faced with the issue of finding at least a couple of reasonably priced 1984 Audi Quattros. They exist but probably not at a price point suitable to fill a car lot.   :)

If you want images of items I would happily send some through but you can find a lot of really good detail on this guy's photo collection, albeit it's Berlin not West Germany. Id you select the tags 'West Berlin' you get a load of useful street scenes from 1979 through to 1989.

Thanks mate much appreciated.

I have great memories of living in Berlin from 1971 to 1975.

I’ll be starting a new topic thread when good to go. 👍

I remember those phone booths and mailboxes as well.  I was stationed in Germany (Schweinfurt) from '84 through '87...brings back memories. 8)

A quick search of Thingiverse for 'german phone booth' turns up a couple of options - either a horrendously complex large scale version, or a very simple 1/87 version which could be a base for updetailing - obviously both require access to a 3d printer!
