All of this explains why there was never a German Tardis.
Em dezembro de '81
Botou os ingleses na roda
3 a 0 no Liverpool
Ficou marcado na história
E no Rio não tem outro igual
Só o Flamengo é campeão mundial
E agora seu povo
Pede o mundo de novo

There used to be a Deutsche Telekom site near Michendorf, I believe, where they stored thousands of pink and yellow telephone boxes prior to them being sold off at low prices for garden sheds etc. You could get a 1:1 scale model!

Anyone watch the series “Say Nothing” - it’s on FX/Disney+ here. It’s about the Troubles, circa 1972, and has some really interesting insights and perspectives. Well worth watching if you’re into that kind of story. It’s based on interviews.

That's the one about Delours Price and her sister? I'm interested in seeing that, although the review I read of it was fairly mixed. An awful woman who was in part responsible for one of the enduring tragedies of The Troubles.  A troubled conscience saw her finally spill the beans to Boston College before her death. Something that rhymes with rich and you can add the word evil to it.

I understand the closer for every episode has a hilarious legal disclaimer about Gerry Adams not being involved in any of the crimes depicted/ being a member of the  Army Council/ the PIRA etc, so Ger can't sue the producers. As Gerry would have it these days, he wasn't even in Northern Ireland during The Troubles and was actually a postman in Glamorganshire for the entire period. Something that rhymes with runt. Just add an adverb about procreation in front of that.

That’s the one. “Gerry Adams is not a terrorist … “ - I laugh every time I read it. I mean, he was just the one interested in peace, right? Right …

Haven’t finished the show yet; I have my own perspective on it as I know a member of Unit 14, who was definitely doing things; and on my evil family side, an uncle who fought with the IRA.

Take the show for what it is, propaganda for terrorism - frankly - but it is a good watch, and lots of inspiration for scenarios of asymmetric warfare.

Gerry became very interested in peace when he saw it served his interests best. By the end of it all he had sod all choice anyway. His organisation* had lost militarily and was rife with British agents.

Hmm I do see an opportunity though, now the chap's dead. I wonder if Disney would be interested in Stakeknife, my screen play for musical based on the life and times of Freddie Scappaticci? Don't even mind if they choose to do it as an animated version. Stephen Rea could do some of the voices. He was married to Delours Price after all.  ;)

*Legal Disclaimer: There is no evidence that Gerry Adams was anything but a dedicated and wholly innocent village postman in rural Wales during the period 1969-1998. Any suggestion that he was either a murdering c*** or just your Fifth Form Chemistry teacher are not imputed by the author.

Ok, back on topic before the thread police turn up...

Really love the latest update, the bus shelters work well.  Where is the statue of Queen Vic from?

Thanks Troops!

The statue is actually from the Camberwick  Green range by Robert Harrrop . It’s a nod to my childhood and a bit silly but that’s me!

I don't know...these days some councils would pay a fortune for a full size statue like that  ;)

Just a quick thank you for this thread and all the work you've put into it. I've been going through it off and on for a week now and  it's been a cracking read, bringing back memories of times past, good and bad.  Your attention to detail is tremendous and really brings your table to life, and the games sound very interesting. I would have liked a bit more meat on the bare bones of your game descriptions, the tactics employed and how they succeeded or failed would be interesting,  to me at least.  You seem enamoured of the I ain't been shot rules, what is it about them that gives you a realistic game?
Very well done and thanks.

Forget the 'these days' bit, some councils would have lapped it up in the 1970s.  See if you know which august municipal council installed this right in the centre of town in 1972.  ;)

The afterlife of this magnificent piece of public art features in Stewart Lee's King Rocker documentary IIRC. Well worth checking out.
