On the left, the banner is of the Mayan model, but also on the Téotihucano model.
On the right, the banner is in the effigy of the  Teenek goddess.
The wheel-shapped back banner is held in place by the loincloth like the Maya too.

Wonderful post! Especially interesting to me.right now as I am posting from a resort in Tulum. :D

The illustration you have posted looks like the noble warrior is wearing the skin of a powerful vanquished enemy.  Yesterday during a tour of Coba our guide mentioned that sometimes warriors would wear the face of a powerful enemy warrior they had killed to gain his power in battle. I can't recall if he was speaking of Northern tribes or those of the Yucatan.  ???

No mention of this in my source, but Sahagun records what when an Huaxtec overcame an opponent :"he cut off is head, casting his body aside. He carried off only his head. He tied it to a stick".
The head were subsequently flayed.

Diaz finding in a temple the still recognizable flayed face of some of his comrades killed.

Modern author's say the same in their research.

We are close to Mayan practices

Fascinating! Out of interest, is there anywhere I can find your research online? I’d love to grow a better understanding of pre-colonial mezoamerica, it’s a period that I’ve never really gotten a foothold on.

Good evening Basementboy,

It's been 35 years since I went looking for information on the different "Aztec" armies.
The start was a book from osprey. Then figurines from Eureka Miniatures followed later by figurines from Lucid Eye.
Then nothing.
Then thanks to the Internet we discover informations.
Today young Mexicans are trying to find their origins, their history... That of their Mexica, ancestor and not that of the writings of the Spanish conquerors.
The Mexico City library offers numerous works and therefore information via the Internet.
My figurines are the fruit of my research....

Perhaps in 1 year, 10 years this informations will be reviewed.
My future figurines on the Huaxtec were never "shown" in drawings or otherwise.
So be patient... ;)
