'Let's 'av a quiet drink'
« on: December 01, 2023, 11:40:45 AM »
Upon the visit of my friend Gregor, aka Zingara, we fitted in a lot of gaming
(& chat) in the two days. Here I report on our Galactic Heroes Game.
Once again I modified a scenario from John Lambshead's excellent book,
'Sci-Fi Skirmish Scenarios'.  This time it was Scenario 3.2, page 56, We Drink
Here So Bog Off'

Modifications:-
My gang of Ratlings wanted quiet drink.
Gregor's 'Police' decided to reduce the rowdy elements upsetting the peace.
A Hot Rod race was going on at this time. When a Joker was drawn another
group of racers would speed through main street. How fast was decided by
drawing a card & the value = inches moved (court cards = 10")
Who moved the Robot bystanders was decided by drawing a card. Red = Gregor
could move them, Black = I could.

666= Innocent bystanders. 3D prints bought cheap off e-bay & painted by me.
As I had just finished them I wanted them to be in the game. 8)
691=The quiet setting. 'Tavern' is the nondescript building in the middle background.
692=Some blameless lads out for a peaceful pint.
693 & 4=Views of the street. Peaceful...but not for long.
695,6 & 7=The roar of the first group of Hot Rods shatters the peace.

698= The 'Police' (Not 'Proper Coppers', more like Traffic Wardens with attitude.
As this area is technically outside the city limits, they have NO LEGAL AUTHORITY here.
699= It is starting to get tense.
700= Gregor moves his thugs nearer to the door of the drinking establishment.
701= It all kicks off. Goons in Blue try to disarm a Ratling. Hot Rods have split
my guys into two groups, either side of the street, and the crucial point...
I have a card yet to play that gives me +1 to shooting! ;)
The Filth were obviously prepared for shooting as the move ends with two of mine down :-[
703= Two 6' 6" armoured 'Officers' at the door lay into ONE 3'4" Ratling, but he puts up a
heck of a fight & takes one of them down with him. :D
705=Mindful of all the Law about the Hot Rods slow down (drew low value cards lol)
As a result no one can risk crossing the street.
707=The cars move on past the chaos.
708= Viewed by the Sergeant from the roof of a building.

709= I manage to hit the Sergeant even though he is hiding on the roof.
As he was near a roof edge he is at risk of falling off the roof... he did  :D ;)
But only got a 'stun' result, then to add to my disappointment Gregor reveals
one of his traits is 'Nerves of Steel' i.e. he IGNORS the first 'stun' result!!! >:(
710= A Hot Rodder asks a local Robot for directions, well all the Traffic cops are busy. lol lol lol
711 & 713 = The end of the game, dead everywhere. So much for a quiet drink!

Nice game & many laughs.
The Robots were moved by Gregor far too many times for my liking, & always seemed
to be getting in my way.

Any game using the old Phagon Battle Clone miniatures is a good one in my book!

Thanks to Peter for putting on this picturesque game.  Running within a scenario certainly adds to the interest and the hot rods racing through the street was a colourful addition and affected LOS and movement. Being police meant I was not going to take the first shot, and to be above board informed the first ratling to try to enter the tavern that he was welcome to have a drink but would be required to leave his weapons outside - not wanting drunk ratlings letting off live ammo. As it was the three street security officers were rewarded for their public spirited behaviour by being shot and assaulted. All were out of the game in fairly short order. With the ratlings opening up first it could have been a lot worse for me - but thankfully rather than wounds the first shots were shaken results, and when the police responded a couple of the ratlings went down which always left them playing catch up.

First Couple of pictures the police enter the picture
Third picture - the aftermath - 3 downed security officers and several ratlings in very close proximity - if only they had surrendered their weapons :-)

Thanks to Peter for an enjoyable escapade with good looking scenery and figures

Thanks for the compliment on terrain & figures. I have masses of 'Interesting bits'
to make more scenery with, but lack the (ironically) space to store it. lol
It was a fun game, I would heartily recommend both the rules & the scenario book.

That's Galactic Heroes for you, though (as we have said many times before) it is less the rules, more the people you play with. :D

Thanks Mike, though more Blaster than Blast.  lol lol lol
As said the robots were cheap 3D prints off e-bay, but do hopefully add to the SW type vibe.

Really fun looking game, it reminds me a lot of the early days of Rogue Trader.

I've probably missed it somewhere but what rules are you using?

Galactic Heroes, from the excellent 'Fistful of Lead' stable of games.
They give an enjoyable game.
