Swarm of bats.
« on: December 02, 2023, 06:07:09 PM »
I picked up some tiny 3d printed bats and decided to make some swarms.  I used a wire armature with a loop to glue to the base and UV resin to attach the bats to it.

Bats set on top of the wire.

Bats set onto the bottom of the wire.

Bulking out the front.

Finished bulking

Both bases done.

Finished the two bases today.  Sorry about the bad lighting but I do not have a light box and we are having weather.  Hope you like.

Now one for scale.

As I said the individual bats are tiny.

Nice.  And if you want something like this in 15 mm, check out Splintered Light Miniatures, they have bats and birds in swarms.  Have both, just not yet painted.

Great idea and execution.

My Warriors of Chaos army for WHFB has this corvidae theme running through it and one of the ideas I had was for the sorceror to not stand on a floating platform, but be elevated and moved around within/on a flock of crows. I bought a box of Zombicide crows for this purpose, but they proved hard to convert and work with.

But this method would absolutely work with the right crow/raven miniature STLs. So thanks for the inspiration! :)

Those wires can easily be hidden with some putty by making them look like bush twigs.
Far less active than I used to...

Thanks for the nice words all.

I saw these but the limited number of poses was a bit off putting as I wanted the swarms to look like a mass of flappy wings.   :D

To be honest, the single black steel wire tends to visually blend into the background so for what I am doing it is "good enough".  With how bad my eyes are getting, "good enough" tends to be enough.
