Xerxes Persian force.
« on: December 05, 2023, 09:46:46 PM »
This my current build for my Persians.
Based around the reign of Xerxes.
Iíll be using it for the WAB event planned for March next year.

So this is the Persian army I will be practicing with, more or less.
Itís also available to loan for the actual event.
Hopefully Iíll be using my Lydian army.

Back row,
40 levy, sailors, camp servants etc. 24 Phyrigian warband.
Next row,
40 Babylonian levy fully tooled up with armour, large shields and a Satrap. 32 Iranian Spara troops
3rd row,
Scythian cavalry. Another Persian/Iranian Spara unit.
Front row,
10 Guard cavalry with a senior Satrap and battle standard. Iranian light infantry. Skirmish slingers.
2 Scythed chariots.

75% painted by me.
Lots of conversions.

Looks fantastic! Achaemenid empire collections often pop a little too much and end up looking plasticky but youíve absolutely smashed it :-*
And Iíd also love to know where the chariots are from, Iím working on Seleucids and these look perfect :)

What they said, thatís a beautiful army! I also really like the palette you used, nicely subtle. I have no idea how Xerxesí army does in the WAB rules, but they will certainly look good!

Chariots are Gripping Beast.
Actually they are later Successor models with a Galation nutter driving them!
They have been temporarily recruited into my early Persian force.

Iíve added a picture of the great king, who sadly wonít be present in these games planned for March next year.

Thanks for the reply.

Love the Great King model!  Now you need one of him in his Chariot.

He may actually make it to the battlefield!
Yes looking at chariot model options.

I quite like the Warlord model, but I think itís not available at the moment?

My inspiration for the above model was the original 300 movie, with Xerxes sat up on a hill observing from a safe distance!

Tim, I love the Great King vignette, and you've reminded me that I have one in my stash which I am now inspired to paint up as a camp for my TTS Achaemenid army. Where did you get the non-Foundry figures and the tent from?

Thanks.

Well actually, the Ďnon-Foundryí figures are Casting Room Miniatures, who are effectively Foundry!

Tent and carpets are 3D prints, which I found online, but sadly canít remember where. Not very good prints if Iím honest, but ok for scenery.
Throne is home grown 3D print.

Love the diorama piece- always fun to see people get creative with command bases, especially when the final product is so lovely :-*

Tim, thanks. Interestingly my "Foundry" set which I'm sure was called something like "The Great King" has a different mix of figures from that now sold by Casting Room. I'm not going to spend £14 ( or a bit less in the sale) just to get three more models. I'll ask my mate who has a 3D printer and knows most of the vendors of STL files if he can locate a nice Persian looking tent.

Great looking Army well turn out.
Not sure Iíd like to face one o& those chariots.
Your Regal base would make a great Ďbase camp vignetteí.
