It’s good that we drifted into this subject,
It’s still on topic, but focused on one particular unit.

So, Egyptian Marines, what confuses me, is the massive shields?
Surely not stored on the warships?
I would have thought a more traditional round shield, or smaller?

Looking at much earlier period Egyptian shields, they are definitely animal hides. But probably a more common, easily attainable animal?

I’ll be using my marines as Levy troops, so pretty low morale.
Certainly not elites, and to me the leopard skin looks a bit deluxe, lol!
A millionaire trapped in a peasants body!

I'd imagine cow hides would be more common. There was one image that came up in Google search that showed a group with shields very similar to the one in the attached image I just found while browsing through a book I only received yesterday, "Henchmen of Ares: Warriors and Warfare in Early Greece", by Josho Brouwers (Karawansaray Publishers, 2013), where this image. is captioned as a meeting between the Egyptian king and Ionian Greeks.

These shields do seem very unwieldy for shipboard use.

Was just browsing through Footsore's Mortal Gods range, and I see they have Egyptian Marines:

I’ve seen these.
They are nice but expensive.

Possibly too animated to rank up a big unit of them?
Shield design is cool though.

I’ve got my marines now.
They will be getting an undercoat on Tuesday day.
Hopefully start to put paint on in the evening.

Heavy cavalry are Casting Room Miniatures, basically Foundry!
Light cavalry are Victrix.

Nice!  The Victrix cav don't dwarf the Casting Room cav?  I would love it if that's the case.

Ok,
So Victrix horses are a tad big.
But the ‘chunky’ Casting Room Miniatures kind of disguise that.

That's good to know!  Thanks.

I've asked about them a few times and have still been curious, but this is exactly the kind of info that helps!

I probably would not bother putting them in the same unit.
But it’s not a massive difference.

I have found 12 28mm Egyptian marines that I won't be needing, possibly by Vendel, of which 8 were black-primed and 4 were not, and none of which were assembled with their cast spears and shields...

Going back through this thread, you mentioned Lydians.  Tell us about those, please.

Re Egyptian Marines :  mine are from Vendel, Thistle and Rose.  I like them  although they did have a few issues w the molds.

Those shields are very interesting!
I’ve been looking for ideas.

Forgive me, but they look like transfers, if so where did you get them?

Always been a fan of the old Vendel.
Probably why I like the new Blitzkrieg stuff, it’s quite similar.
