Ghost in the shell minis?
« on: November 15, 2009, 10:20:49 AM »
Being a big fan of Ghost in the Shell, I'd like to gather the team together for gaming, but struggling to think of suitable minis. I'd especially like them suited up in their grey camo suits - any ideas?
Cheers

If anyone is unsure here's the major in her suit:

First stop, of course, would be various Infinity figures. The Panoceania Fusiliers might work, since they wear comparatively little armour. The Ariadna Kazaks are in a similar vein, and the Van Zant figure could be modified into a passable Batou or Boma. The main problem, is, though, that you would probably need to "keep in style" once you start with those, and this might be problematic.

Another option would be using the HLBS Ultra-Modern line, maybe SAS Hostage Rescue Teams as a basis. The Seburo carbines would require some converting, though, as would the heads to get some passable likenesses, but you could also check the various types of separate heads now available (Anglian via Empress, SotTR, Pig Iron) if there are suitable bases for conversion available.

Finally, you could go for the Foundry Street Violence range and the Future Warriors available from EM-4, Mirliton and (second gen) Copplestone, although these would require conversions as well.  ThereŽs a number of figures in the various SWAT blisters which would be suitable with little work, such as the one big SWAT specialist with M60, who would only need the bionic eyes (and a ponytail if going for the TV series version) to pass as Batou.

When I did my various GitS stuff, I chose to use more or less generic figures, and to sculpt or convert the more iconic ones. Unfortunately, I only managed to do Batou before I lost interest in that specific variant of Cyberpunk, but IŽll probably return to do some more figures. Although IŽm currently more interested in doing some Appleseed stuff now that I got the GZG character figures for that setting.

More Appleseed than Ghost in the Shell, but considering they were created byt the same writer/artist and are possibly in the same universe you could use them.

As for GZG, the Appleseed mini's are great if small, but dont be tempted by the animetal range, you have been warned.

awesome idea and very very tempting!

I think a good Batou mini would be "Harby" from Hasslefree:

As Chris said, the Infinity range would be great for lots of characters. I think the remotes and TAGS would be perfect. Especially these:

GZG has sum very characterful sci fi minis and i have lots of them, i think they will be out off scale with infinity though.

Keep us up to date with this, im very interested!

Some great ideas, I'd thought of Harby as Batou (I even have the model sitting waiting for the rest of the gang). I've looked at Infinity but the range is a little bewildering at times (as are the prices), there are some that could work - I'd managed to miss the Fusiliers, so thanks for the heads up, they could work, but will need lots of converting. I'd looked at the Ariadna ones, but couldn't seem to find a guy big enough for Boma, and was unsure as to how well they'd fit with Hasslefrees Harby as they didn't seem to have a guy equally big in stature for him either.
Chris - I'm really impressed with your Tachicomas, they look really really great, I'll have to raid our local hobby shop for suitable beads now.

Edit:
Just looked at Infinity HaqqiIslam models the Ghulams could work

I had some of the gashapon from the GitS anime, they may be a bit big but if you start from scratch scenery wise then it may be a good idea http://jmilke.wordpress.com/2007/11/11/ghost-in-the-shell-gashapon/

Anyway, I am pretty interested in what you choose, I have the collectors box of the anime with the movies inside too  :D
