HELP Sticky primer on oven baked clay
« on: January 02, 2024, 06:07:59 AM »
Hi brains trust can I have some help.

I made some little oven baked polimer clay creations with the family and after baking sprayed with army painter primer as my usual method.

There is a chemical reaction going on making the primer tacky and not dry.

What are my options to fix it?
Coat of modpodge?

Cheers
Matt

Modpodge has fixed a lot of things for me, worth a try.

I would have suggested either a respray or Has.been's suggestion of ModPodge

In case anyone doesn't know, ModPodge is pretty much just watered down PVA glue, they tell you it's not the same, but I have yet to find an application where it works differently   ;)

Thanks Has and Snitchy.  :)

Sounds like modge/pva may be a goer.  ??? Wish me luck

Dean, I've managed to avoid the modge podgy craze for almost 10 years as it was impossible to find locally, but it's available now and I've bought a pot so have it on hand. It does seem to behave in a very similar method, I think the really only upside is that there is a matte finish and it applies at a more paint like consistency.

Would iosoprocol alcohol work to rub it off? I thought that may be a bit aggressive?

You can get modge podge as a spray, as well as the brush on version. If the surface is sticky, the spray might be easier, at least for the first coat.
