Late Medieval Holy Roman Empire Army: More Units 16Mar24
« on: January 23, 2024, 08:57:10 PM »
So after working on my Carthaginians for almost the last year, I'm taking a break to rework another army.  The is a HRE army originally built for Warhammer Ancients around 20 years ago. Rather than a complete repaint, I've opted for just some minor clean up and rebasing. My theme was northwestern cities of Germany, primarily the Hanse cities, and I painted each unit to reflect that. While I know that such a unform appearance wouldn't have been the reality, I decided to take the artistic liberty for the visual appeal.

Cloppenburg:

Hanover:

Osnabrück:

Oldenburg:

Still a lot more to go, but I'm happy with the start.

Nice work. I find refurbishing armies strangely satisfying. I'm just finishing adding a few figures and LBM flags plus rebasing some Wars of the Roses figures to make my units compatible with "Never Mind the Billhooks". I'm also dusting off some 30 year old Skytrex "Action 200" Vietnam stuff. A mate introduced me to the 'Nam add-on to Crossfire which seemed to work well. After adding some infantry I'm now expanding my building stock with some Timecast 6mm buildings which match well with the allegedly larger Skytrex vehicles.

Thanks!  Yes, it has been a lot of fun revisiting old armies that have been collecting dust. Good luck with your projects!

Well, I'd say that your 'liberty' definitely succeeded joekano  :)

Can I ask who makes the figures for your pike block in the last photo?
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

2019 Painting Challenge :
figures bought: 500+
figures painted: 57
9 vehicles painted
4 terrain pieces scratchbuilt

They are the Old Glory Swiss Heavy Pikemen from their Italian Wars line with some added command figures. Most of the other infantry figures in the photos are theirs as well.  They are a little smaller than the Perry figures, but one of OG's better lines.
