Wargaming topic on ancient TV
« on: March 30, 2024, 11:47:38 AM »
A TV clip from the seventies(?), detailing wargaming at the time.

Some may have already seen it, but  I was duly fascinated by the fact sculpting was done with a frickin' soldering iron!  :o

Then he goes on that sculpting moustaches like this is difficult, but not impossible! No greenstuff or milliput for that man  lol
Miniatures you say? Well I too, like to live dangerously...

Interesting clip using metal as the sculpting medium  :)

Think it would be mid to maybe late eighties though? If I recall correctly Iain Dickie took over the editorship of Miniature Wargames around then?

Good to see Iain and Neville Dickinson looking so young :). Mind you, it’s not long since I last saw Neville and he was looking very spry still.

I must say, i never realised they sculpted in metal like that and in 15mm…!

It was the normal method for creating 54mm Toy Soldier masters.

Alan Caton, a very well-known 54mm sculptor, was using that technique up to when he died a few years ago.

All the masters for the All the Queen's Men ranges that I owned and sold through Imperial Miniatures  for a few years were metal figures sculpted using the same techniques.

Still very impressive, but this guy was doing 15mm that way...  :o
