Dire Bear and Terror bird - some prehistorics
« on: November 19, 2009, 04:29:38 AM »
Finally - after a year (maybe a year and a half) of virtually no constructive painting, I've finished a few figures.  The major project is this Dire Bear by Reaper:

I'm quite pleased with the detail I was able to achieve on his teeth and eyes.

I also finished the base and touched up a Ral Partha Terror Bird:

I bought the bird off Ebay, already painted by a friend of mine (Clarke Payne).  The painting is 95% his work, all I did was the base and a small amount of highlighting.

Next up - some more Wargods stuff and some Cavemen!

Really like the way you painted the bear's fur.  Mixing the brown and black really works.

Lovely animal!

Very nice indeed and the bases make them look like a proper pair. I have one of birds fom when they were first released, it is painted green and covered in gloss varnish like everything was in those days

Great stuff - a really good job on the bear's fur, with the mix of colours.

Ain't that the truth! I used to love that big pot of Humbrol gloss!

Alex;
Those figures look great...nice detail to your brush work. It is always a pleasure to see your figures all painted up. Thanks for sharing.

A year off, eh?  :o
Well you've certainly hit the ground running on your return to painting.

Gorgeous minis!

Thanks for the kind words, folks.  I didn't have a plan when I started painting the bear, his fur pattern isn't based on any sort of real world animal, I just painted light and dark areas in places that I thought looked believeable.

I really like the Terror Bird here. I would like to poach it for my own birds but perhaps switch the colours. Well done.

WELCOME BACK! You've made a triumphal return. Both pieces painted up WONDERFULLY...proves that fine painting skills remain even after periods of sloth & idleness. I'm looking forward to your future Works of Wonder. In the interim...VERY WELL DONE!
