AWI AAR Sharp Practice
« on: March 10, 2024, 10:34:17 AM »
We had a slightly different game recently with more closed down terrain, skirmishers and light dragoons adding to a quite a different game. Full game report and lots of photos on the blog here:

Great looking game.

If you have played Napoleonic SP, how does AWI SP differ in the way the game plays?

The mix of troops types and how you use them is very different, American riflemen with Tomahawks and Indians in tribal groups with the same, the larger numbers of militia etc make the game feel a bit different.

The other difference with AWI SP2 is that with the various legionary corps, you can have historically accurate mixes of infantry and cavalry - even the odd small-calibre artillery piece if you want - rather than the odd-looking/-feeling combinations that you find with Napoleonics.  Without being a total orbat Nazi, a bunch of line infantry with a few groups of un-related skirmishers and riflemen, backed up by eight cuirassiers just does not seem right.
No plan survives first contact with the dice.

Great game and report. Bugger for the Continentals, though...

Thanks - might make AWI SP tempting - I’ve been resisting Pendraken’s AWI for some time now!

Fair point - I suppose with Naps you need to constrain yourself a bit - but what you describe as a force, sounds exactly like a Sharpe TV episode!

How have you based your rifles? 35mm diameter or 40mm?

Which is exactly what is wrong with it (in my no-so-humble-opinion  lol )!

These are based on 40mm round bases and I feel work really well.
