6mm Blucher Efforts
« on: March 20, 2024, 05:55:25 PM »
I have been contemplating getting hold of Blucher for years, and finally took the plunge. I have also been thinking of trying out the mdf 6mms by Commission Figurines having seen some mixed with metals a few years back - so the two things have come together and I picked up Austrian and French.
I am very impressed with the mdf figures. With a pack of 96 cavalry or 36 cavalry for £2 and plus some mdf bases off ebay I was getting 6 units for less than the cost of a coffee.  There is always the temptation to paint too much detail at this scale, but resisting that I reckon I can turn out 6 bases in an hour or so. I took has.beens advice and painted the front of the front rank and the back of the back rank of the infantry, and quickly learned the horses only need the scorch marks on the top painted since they are brown already. I've printed off some flags from the web and glued on using cut down pins.
A lot of us have trouble seeing 6mm these days - so to aid unit differentiation I have added yellow or red "flowers" to tufts of grass to help.
The figures have already been used in several solo games and I'm pleased with the results. I can see myself getting a few another pack of infantry for each side and probably a Russian force as well.
The figures and bases in the photos came to less than £40.

Impressive Gregor.
If it wasn't for the fact that Vodkafan & I have stockpiled Risk figures (Tricorns) & 10mm Napoleonics, we might have joined you. :D

Interestingly, one of my gaming buddies who I regularly play Blucher with has gone down the Commission Figures mdf route and they look very impressive en masse (he also has French and Austrians, but has just bought a large batch of Russians). At the same time I've picked up a load of the tricorn-wearing Risk figures to create Blucher armies with!! :)

Nice.  I looked at the Commission figures but couldn't persuade my mates so we collectively went with Baccus. I've just finished my 1813-14 French force comprising 18 infantry and 12 cavalry units with 8 guns/crews.  I also picked up some Adler command before they closed shop, plus some of the new-ish Grumbler Miniatures command as well.
