The Gunpowder Plot in Much Piddling in the Marsh
« on: March 20, 2024, 08:58:41 PM »
The Mad Lord Snapcase came north and we played a few games. this was one of them.

Much Piddling in the Marsh, home to a band of Parliament troops.

A musket shot at dawn startles Faulke the sentry.

The Royalists, need to destroy the Piddling garrisons powder supply.

The first wave of Royalists attack but warned by the musket shot their enemy react swiftly and fighting is fierce.

More of the Piddling garrison emerge from their slumber in the Ram Inn, weaving slightly they make their way to the far side of the village towards to sounds of fighting.

The first diversionary attack has failed but Sir Verity Snapcase has a second wave of men to fix the defenders in place.

As he runs towards the prize, and lights a fuse. Can he run fast enough to escape the unpredictable blast. Unpredictable in timing and blast area. A dry mouth time for the noble Lord.

Who knew he could run so fast. He didn't stop but just kept on running.

He escaped with only two of his command intact. Fear-Naught Murdo his Religious Advisor was surrounded and captured. Sir Verity is going to have to put a slight spin on his adventure to convince Oli C that the loss of so many men was worth a barrel of gunpowder, but if anyone can do it, Sir Verity Snapcase is the one man who can.

There is a full account of the fight in Much Piddling in the Marsh over on my Blog but you've got the gist of it if you read this far.

Thanks to McYellowbelly for the inspiration on the paving slabs.

Cheers

There is also a lengthier version of the game over on Vagger's blog.

Well worth a read, when you have a minute.

I suspect that the other (unnamed) supporter to escape from this affair with Snapcase was his devoted servant Scrotum (pretty spry for an old guy).
Got to kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight.

Cheers guys, thanks for the encouraging comments, they're much appreciated.  :)

We played 3 most enjoyable games in the 2 days that Snappers stayed in Vagabond Manor, we were using the What a Cowboy rules for this game, modified for black powder and also with a different take on activation although still using the 6 dice for types of action.

The second game in which Mad Wullie Snapcase, Dashing Dougie Douglas and the Black Vagabond tried to take money from the Baby Eating Bishop of Bath and Wells, didn't go too well. Especially if you were the afore mentioned hero's of the story. I'm almost finished painting an Elizabethan prison waggon, which might give you some indication of how well the game went. ;)
Cheers

Lon - I'm happy to represent the Mad Lord with a figure on the table but there's no way I'm going to portray his old wrinkly retainer, Scrotum, I'll leave that to Snappers. o_o o_o

Lon,
Old Scrotum (the wrinkled and ancient family retainer) was indeed there, but incognito. Nobody expects the undercover Scrotum!

Based I think on a Fistful of Lead game video that Jaye and his son played.  I’ve done it a couple times solo myself.
