15th century Swiss

Good morning. I'm thinking about starting a 15th century Swiss army starting with "Never Mind the Billhooks" and then moving on to bigger TTS games.  I know Perry produce some nice figures....and indeed am painting some if their Italian figures at the moment....but was wondering how they scale up to the excellent looking Steel Fist Miniatures range?

Any help gratefully received.

Perry Miniatures and the new Steel Fist Swiss should fit together very well.

The Dave Andrews Foundry range, whilst still a kind of fit (they will work with the Perry's at a push ***when painted***) are obviously a wee bit smaller and slightly chunkier- the main difference being a different sculpting style.

Thanks for the very prompt answer. Yes that answers my question perfectly. I have also looked at the Wargames Foundry range, but decided they are too "caricatured" to fit with the others. That said i may look at acquiring one of their command packs.

The new Steel Fist swiss pikemen do scale very nicely with Perry miniatures. I've got some but have yet to paint them.

The Foundry range is indeed a bit 'cartoony', just a different sculpting style. I have mixed a select few into my mostly Perry collection though - I find the ones with visored or closed sallets work best, as it hides the 'distinctive' faces. They are overall a a bit shorter and chunkier, and some of the poses are a bit odd (floppy arms?).

Example - the halberdier in sallet and mail on the corner closest to the camera is Foundry, most of the rest are Perry.



And the same unit from a different angle  -the captain with the sword is Foundry, and actually one of the all time favourite miniatures in my collection!

Charlie, thanks. It looks like I will opt for Perry and Steel Fist but with the odd Foundry if I come across any . I do like their command pack and may search that out.

SJWi,  Artizan have some lovely Swiss and don't overlook Essex and Redoubt....

Vodkafan, thanks for the tip. I did look at the Artizan figures but concluded they were more early 16th century than mid 15th?  Not too impressed by the photos on the Essex and Redoubt websites. Maybe they don't do justice to the figures.

The Foundry swiss range works for that period.

Bluechi, yes I've clocked the Foundry range. The figures look a tad caricatured compared to Perry or Steel Fist but I may mix some in.  As pointed out before the command pack is very nice.

Oh yes....the Uri hornblower is one of the best in this range....
