French Napoleonic Dragoons for Sharp Practice
« on: April 27, 2024, 04:49:00 PM »
Some time ago now I painted 8 mounted French Dragoons for my Peninsula collection, along with their Officer.
Whilst playing a game of Sharp Practice the other week, my opponent wanted to use the unit as dismounted skirmishers, but I didn't have the relevant figures and so to my shame, we used French Voltigeurs as a stand in.
I looked in vain for dismounted Dragoons in campaign gear on the Web, so I decided to have a go at converting some of my own.
I'm no Michael or Alan Perry, but I'm fairly pleased with how these turned out. Greenstuff baggy trousers and helmet covers, and a paint job that hides a multitude of sins 😂
Of course, now I've gone to the bother of doing them, the Perry's will undoubtedly bring out a pack of these that I will of course purchase 😀

Beautifully done.  :-* :-*

Almost cruel to point out that Perry already make dismounted dragoons, as do Brigade Games. That said neither are in covered helmets or overalls.

Thank you all for the very kind comments, I was aware of the Brigade figures but they are for Dragoons in the infantry role.
These are actually Perry plastic miniatures, they came in boots and uncovered shakos, but I wanted them to represent the mounted versions I already had in baggy trousers and helmet covers, hence the greenstuff 😀

Look very good to my eye. I also like the mounted versions, good to see them painted up as being thinking would be good to buy those packs so thanks for sharing.
