The Kenshin Ryu Campaign: Ronin (sort of) AARs
« on: May 05, 2024, 03:36:05 PM »
Hello all,

After having thought about doing this for a while, I finally decided to actually have a go at the Kenshin Ryu Campaign that Craig Woodfield wrote for Ronin, but using the army lists I had adapted for En Garde. Scenario 1 was played this most recent Tuesday (writeup delayed out of sheer laziness), with a rather lopsided result favouring my Bandits...

While we won't play every single week (especially if I need to paint up a lot of extras after Scenario 3), the rough plan is to (hopefully?) finish at some point in June.

I really enjoyed Ronin but haven't played it about 10 years- I should really
get back to it.

I have both Koryu and Bandit forces painted as well as a print out of this campaign. Following along with interest and hopes to run through the same campaign myself in the future.

After an unfortunate illness-related delay, we got to grips again and, er... it went not-very-well for me this time round. And by this time I mean both of Scenarios 2 and 3...

Well, a number of delays happened but we managed to run through the last 3 scenarios. No writeups (yet) for 4 and 5 but I will likely get back to those; in the meantime my dad stole a march on me and wrote up his own report for the final scenario:

https://d6onod6.blogspot.com/2024/07/tracked-to-their-last-lair-ronin-game.html

In the end, we called it an overall draw: technically when we called it quits the Koryu were still up 1 campaign point relative to the Bandits, but had the Bandits managed to continue to trade blows at the rate they had, the Koryu (with just 191 points of men remaining versus 252 points of Bandits) were unlikely to make it much longer.

Awesome, this seems like an approachable way to get my feet wet in Ronin as far as what figures and terrain to get together. Are there any official campaigns like this or are they all fan-made?

Far as I can tell this is the only official campaign that was ever made, but there's no reason you can't use it as the basis for your own campaign idea.
