Practising for To The Smallest
« on: May 27, 2024, 12:27:45 PM »
The To the Strongest competition scene is thriving, but up to now has only catered for the 28mm gamer.

This June, however, sees the inaugral To the Smallest competition at Firestorm Games in Cardiff, where the armies used will be 15mm on a 10cm grid.

Here's a couple of battle reports from my first two practice games for the tournament:

Looks fantastic! I’ve been considering using TTS for 6mm actually, it’s really useful how scale-agnostic it is.

Vis Bellica, looks great. I game TTS in 28mm, normally on a 12 x 8 grid but occasionally managing a bigger battle. I've been thinking about dropping down to 15 or 10mm for some "cavalry heavy" armies (a) to reduce cost and (b) to give a different "look" to my units.  My main period so far is pre-1066 so thinking of doing this for Middle Ages  Eastern Europe/Middle East with say Mongols, Mamelukes, Ottomans and say Hungarians.

I usually game in 15mm on a 12x10 grid: it does give an imprerssive battle.

Here's a Normans vs Timurids game:

Good looking armies, we’ve played a bit of TtS in 10mm, and loads of FKaP in 10mm. The great thing about these rules is that they are completely scale independent.

We’ve played with standard 15cm boxes and also dropped to 12.5cm ones to allow more boxes on the table top. With both sizes of boxes you can still get a big 10mm unit with loads of figures on it in the box. Gives a nice sweeping whole battlefield look to the game.

Fred, agreed. If starting afresh I would opt for 10mm.
