Death korps of Krieg.
« on: June 03, 2024, 09:22:38 PM »
Ever since the kill team came out I've been picking the figures up here and there with the idea of creating a small force from Krieg.
Finally I've got started, this will be a slow burn project just because of the amount of converting and faffing about that will need to be done.

First up is a painted infantry squad made straight from the instructions, -ish, to see what the kit is like to build and how easy it is to swap bits. Using 3 shades of grey and following the recipe I'd used for bolt action Germans I've got a scheme I can cope with painting lots of, remember the days when you had to mix codex grey yourself, I kinda miss that time.

On to the conversions, well not much of one for the Quartermaster's cadre, I had the idea of making him a sort of imperial priest figure, not sure how it'll work out but he does stand out. And I didn't have anything to use as medica-servitors so he got two medics instead.

Heavy weapon squad is another set of minor conversions, kneeling Death Korps with cadian arms and random assistants.

There's plans for little conversions to create some of the other units from the army, though I don't know where I'm going to get shotguns from, might have to scratch build some.

Thanks, haven't had much chance to do anything since but I'm hoping to get some of the heavy weapons painted today if nothing else.

cheers, I've got a picture of the first weapon team painted up and have another on the go.

I have been kinda distracted looking at the wargames atlantic damned kickstarter thing, really tempted to put a late pledge in as they fit suspiciously well for the Vraks renegades.

Anyhoo, picture of the heavy bolter, not sure about the grey on the gun shield, may change this in future but might not as it's extra work.  ;)

So this is the first heavy weapons squad completed, now I need to get some more built, the plan going forward is to build another heavy weapons squad (all mortars), then a command squad an whatever's left will go into standard squads. Lets see how long that plan lasts.  :D

Oh and with any left over heads I hope to make some rough riders.

Edit: Dammit, should have cleaned the flock off before taking photos.

It’s a solid paint scheme, and executed well. Nice work on those team conversions too!

Thanks, though so far the conversions have just been sticking different arms on, when I get to swapping in shotguns for lasrifles it'll be more interesting.

Slowly chugging along with this but it's hampered by work and heat and watching the cricket.

But I have managed to paint a tank commander, just need to get on with the tank now, it's built and painting has started. I'm trying something new and it's a bit hmmm at the moment, so deciding what to do which is why there's no pictures of it yet.
His back was filled in with a bit of greenstuff and the straps sculpted across, it was all done in one go which is why it looks so rough.

Actually just had a thought, is he commanding a tank or bird-watching?

Bought myself a Malcador for the Commander to command.... was trying to get the look of something from the days of epic, when you had to mix codex grey yourself, I'm happy with the way it turned out, which is the important thing.

Very nice. I loved the Malcador ever since it first appeared on FW. I like the binoculars you used there; they look very fitting for the DKoK. :)

Well done! I like the markings and how the overall colour worked out - very businesslike.

Thanks, that was the intention, I can't see the DKK messing about more than necessary.

Thanks, yup I've wanted one for a while and when they announced the plastic kit I still wanted one and finally got round to buying it. The binoculars are the ones you get in the Kill team set, I've used them a couple of times on the weapons teams, there's some really good bits and pieces on the sprues.

More converting work, this should have been really easy, new heads and backpacks for the crew, But... I didn't like the fact the gunner was sat right behind the breach on the original, for the other weapon options it would make sense, for this one, not so much. Like normal it required me to do more work than necessary to get a better look. And I still need to make up the rest of the gun crews.

lol My first thought when I looked at the picture was, “I wonder if that guy is going to lose a leg when that thing recoils.” And you answered the question admirably! It’s a cool looking model, as with the earliest figures, quite businesslike.
