02 Hundred Hours in Normandy
« on: June 05, 2024, 11:32:49 AM »

First game using these rules. The first training scenario; SAS commandoes try to get through the German cordon to reach their rendezvous point. They didn’t make it!
Great fun, and some neat mechanisms. Now I need to paint up the rest of the figures!

A second game; the first of the scenarios using the full rules.
‘Butcher and Bolt’ ; SAS try and kill as many Germans as they can and the leave before the reinforcements turn up.
Really enjoyable game; the rules work well, play quickly and are very atmospheric. The SAS managed to kill half the starting force of Germans for the loss of only one man.

Sabotage. The SAS raid an airfield in occupied France. Great game; the Germans got loads of events which nearly thwarted the raid. The first man to reach the plane was taken out by the ‘dangerous objective’ event, the second was caught on the wire, and it looked touch and go, but the SAS squeaked a win

The Havoc mission. SAS trying to destroy multiple objectives; they did have some demo charges, but that team never made it to the target, so they had to use grenades, which proved a bit hit or miss. Targets destroyed, but the SAS suffered too many casualties. A great game featuring raiders creeping up on sentries from behind, bodies being found, searchlights and general mayhem. The bren gun is very handy when it all kicks off.

Great stuff - good to know you’re enjoying the game. It's in my ‘to do’ pile (with the intention of taking it to club ultimately) although I haven’t yet had a chance to play it through by myself.

The rescue mission

The little village of Colomby-les-deux-chats, recently occupied by the Oxfordshire Yeomanry before a counter attack by the Germans drove them out. But their commander, Major ‘Squiffy’ Johnson was busy sampling the wines in the cellar of the local chateau, and is now trapped behind enemy lines. The British launch a daring rescue. Another great game, although sadly ‘Squiffy’ didn’t make it; he made such a racket trying to bring a case of wine with him that he was spotted and shot down.
