Vendee rebellion project
« on: June 17, 2024, 08:13:17 AM »
Some Maine Chouan cavalry from the French Revolution circa 1793, figures are from the revolutionary armies range owned by Skytrex now.

The banner is a cut down Byzantine banner by LBM. The only description  of the banner I have is that it was gifted by Urban Rene de Hercé bishop of Dol to Captain Forrestiere from the Avesnieres Basilica.  The banner was captured after the battle of Le Man’s, the banner was described as Mary on a red background.

Cheers

They look lovely! Nice choice with the banner too, really adds to the unit overall.

Lovely job. I bought a "Sharp Practice" Vendee Rebellion force when the figures were still owned by Emperor Toad's Miniatures. Thinking of expanding for the Chouans but need to save my pennies!

Interesting, I didn't know it.

It was probably similar to many 18th and 19th C. Catholic banners of western France which are displayed in churches, some still used in religious processions.

Yes I have photographed the virgin banner that is in the Église de la Madeleine de Verneuil-sur-Avre (where General Louis de Frotte and six companions were memorial is) today and will attempt a painting of it I think.

Absolutely brilliant!

And there I was thinking that a Maine Chouan was a sort of cat!  ;)

Very nice indeed!

With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss
