All Things Horror rules released
« on: November 24, 2009, 08:00:44 PM »
My favourite (in terms of different rules owned and number of games played) company, Two Hours Wargames, have released these new rules.

As usual, they are solo-playable and are compatible with ATZ, NUTs! etc.

Once you get your head around the way they are written and the basic concepts, they are remarkably playable, effective and fun rules systems.

I've just bought my copy from:

How does ATZ play? Is it a miniature game, board game or rpg?

Cheers

Haven't played ATZ, but the others are generally skirmish-level mini games, with the option to include RPG elements. All have strong solo play and are also great for multi-player games.

Are they quite rules heavy, or simple?

I play with a large group, and the ability to use simple rules usually goes down well. Although sometimes there are only a few of us playing and slightly more complex rules are better.

The website for 2 hour games didn't really reveal much...

Cheers again

I've found most THW games to be fairly simple, but I will note that they have some -very- unusual mechanisms. Some folks pick them up right away  - others might take a game or two to familiarize themselves. Most gamers I know either love THW games or loathe them. Some of them on both sides happen to be in my gaming group;)

I will say that "All Things Horror" seems a misnomer to me, since it's predominantly WWW2 based, and is specifically geared toward that era. There was some amusing chatter about that over at TMP.

You can download their Chain Reaction rules for free.  That seems to be the base system for most of their games.  Should give you an idea of what the games are like.

I just skimmed through my copy.  It does not seem to be WWW2 based at all.  The setting seems very generic and they even mention using helicoptors in one of the scenerio set ups.  I think the preview that first came out was WWW2 based.  I remember it mentioning things Hitler unleashed.

It seems to be more BPRD or government supernatural investigators.  Right now there are only stats for vampires, wights and zombies.  It says more monsters in a later addition.
