Painted: Cybermen for Salute 2010 - Doctor Who Miniatures Game
« on: November 24, 2009, 08:37:33 PM »
More Salute goodness from Mark Dixon. He even makes MU Cybermen look good. Love those Fenris Bases!

These are some more for the Doctor Who Miniatures Game (DWMG) game 'Lock Stock and Two Smoking Daleks' one of two participation games at Salute 2010.

And this test shot too.

The DWMG Salute Gallery is here:

Wonderful - you promised cybermen and here one is! I can't believe that mini started out as one of those naff Micro Universe plastic horrors. Then again, Mark Dixon is a whizz with the brushes...

Getting very excited about this project.

I'm just wondering how he managed it, the couple I had were really bendy and I thought the paint would crack and flake off too easily to repaint.

Top job though, very impressive finish.  8)

Have you not seen AEG's blog on Micro Cybermen JB? He's come up with a way to use pinning to reduce the bendiness.

He's a more patient man than I! I drilled and pinned my Slitheen so I could swap the arms around and add a bit of variation, but it's a fiddly old job and no mistaking. That soft plastic is a lot easier to drill than metal I grant you, but it's so thin and easy to mess up. And the slitheen are chunkier than those MU cybermen by a long way. I saw that blog entry and figured I'd just go old school with my cybermen. A shame in a way - these new models do look pretty impressive.

You know, I'd forgotten about that "how to" on AEG's blog. I'm with Oxiana though, a bit too fiddly for me, I'm afraid.

Not enough practice with a pin vise, that's the problem! After you've removed a fair few integrals and pinned a lot of figures it becomes a lot less frightening. My crowning achievement was pinning a plastic spearhead to (LOTR) Eowyn's spear, after I bought her broken from ebay.

Cheers everyone!!

I'm not sure if I saw something on AEG's or Mark's pages about stripping and bending Clix and MU stuff. I 'm sure I read something about putting them in hot water to bend them into shape.

Nice job. Seeing them painted makes me wish I had gotten a hold of some of the new cybermen. They are one of my favorites in the new Dr Who.
