Some years ago, I picked up the DVD set cheap.  Makes great viewing while painting.  The writing on the first season was surprisingly good and surpassed memory.  Second season is still entertaining enough.  It's been a few years since last viewing, could pop it in again any time now....

Well leaving rules aside, let's take apart Rob's objections.

Well I guess I am not surprised that you would decide to deride any view counter to your own, you never seem able to resist pushing the "MY way is the RIGHT way" mantra.
Tiresome and predictable, as this is not my thread I will resist bothering to reply to your arguments.

I'm just curious if it is worth pursuing for this theater and it appears the opinions on that are divided.  robh, I appreciate your counter view; very glad to read your perspective.

Thanks, we skirmish game it with figures already bought and painted for other higher level games (RPWF, Disposable Heroes, Rapid Fire, Battlegroup or such depending on who is running the game) so it was not a case of specifically investing time and money in it.  That would be my caution, not that it can't be fun, but that it is of limited replayability

I think NA is a good theatre for skirmishing.

Its early war so there's lots of possibilites for lighter tanks and armoured cars, which to me work better in skirmish games than the heavier vehicles.
If you only want to recreate historic battles, it might be a bit limited by the fact that it was a shorter period than the european theatre.
You could also argue that theres less opportunity for the classic  "a couple of small patrols bumped into each other" scenario, but I think you could just play "small convoy ambush".

Also, how small a game do you consider a skirmish game? A squad? A platoon?

There's also "DAK attack!" which is about SAS attacking DAK, not the other way around.
Its waiting for me in my mailbox, so I hope its good, but I dont know yet.

We have had a few good games of  DAK attack so far,  it flows well and we had fun.
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

2019 Painting Challenge :
figures bought: 500+
figures painted: 57
9 vehicles painted
4 terrain pieces scratchbuilt

Piggybacking off this thread, what is some good terrain for North Africa WWII skirmish? I've built a couple of little houses so far and am wondering how to expand.

Dunes/hills are great scatter.  Ones with an escarpment on one side for lining the edges of a road.  Oasis with palm trees and well.  Checkpoint.  Supply dump.  Tower and bits for a small airfield.  Crashed plane carrying the McGuffin.

Oasis and crashed plane are perfect for small patrols bumping into each other scenarios.
