North Riding Wargames Group (N. Yorks. / Co. Durham)
« on: May 28, 2024, 10:13:08 AM »
What follows is a selection of photo images of games played at the North Riding Wargames Group's monthly meet-up days at Scruton village hall, or the occasional games days at Pendraken Miniatures.

North Riding Wargames Group's membership is (for the most part) drawn from gamers belonging the Catterick Garrison, Northallerton, Middlesbrough, Redcar, and Guisborough (all N. Yorks) and Darlington (Co. Durham) areas. It meets once a month, on the last Sunday, at Scruton village hall (nr. Northallerton, N.Yorks).

But the membership is often found playing at other clubs, friend's or other member's houses, or at Pendraken Miniature's shop, so games are held throughout the month.

Games played range from Historical, to semi-historical, to what-if historical; Pulp adventures or just-having-a-laugh with a load of Cowboys or Gangsters; Naval gaming and Wings of Glory WW1 & 2; Sci-Fi quick and simple rules; GW's Necromunda & Blood Bowl Sevens. Star Wars X-Wing and Star Trek Attack Wing. Toy soldier sizes are 10mm, 15mm, 28mm for Historical and Pulp-stuff; Heroic 28mm to 32mm for the Sci-Fi gaming.

As with most other groups of gamers, there will be a very wide range of periods, miniature sizes, and interests that most of us don't even know the others have, so I'm sure I've missed some games, periods or sizes that can be gamed with by the group.

Quote from:  NRWG members
"It was based on a Hotz Mats cowboy gaming mat, with textured roads added by a Group member using DIY materials. Grass was also added, using model railway/wargaming materials, etc."

I hope this answers your enquiry Khusru2. I had to ask several other gamers for the information, as you can see  :)

Gaming at Pendraken Miniatures - 29 / 06 / 2024
What follows are some photographs I took while taking charge of a part of the British landings in a D-Day Sword Beach game.

The location was Pendraken Miniatures' games room.

The miniatures belonged to James.

The terrain was a mixture belonging to Dave and James.

Martin and myself commanded the British, with Dave and James GM-ing/commanding the Axis forces.

LINK to Dave's blog post of the same game - with explanation and more photographs (of the whole table):

The four of us are all members of the North Riding Wargames Group (NRWG)

I'd be interested in coming along to this.
I live near Ripon so Northallerton is not a million miles away. When's the next meet up?

If anyone wants a day by the seaside the Scarborough club usually meets on Monday and Wednesday evenings at the YMCA in town. Mondays 7-10 pm, Wednesdays 6-10 pm

Hello Chris. Sorry I took so long to pop back onto the forum and reply to your enquiry. Deedles (Dave) is the treasurer, so I'm sure he's provided you the correct details in his PM. I'll post them, here, in case others are interested.

The NRWG's monthly game's meet is held on the last Sunday of each month - so the next will be on Sunday July 28th - at the Scruton Village Hall, Northallerton DL7 0QN. Start time is 9AM, with gaming usually lasting into the early afternoon.

I'm not sure about fees for first visit, but do know that if a person is only spectating and not playing then there is no attendance fee.

Transport is my issue, unfortunately. I have to beg a lift to Scruton, so Scarborough is a near impossibility for me. :(
