15 mm Vietnam ranges of figures, buildings, etc.?
« on: July 31, 2024, 01:59:48 PM »
What are the options for doing Vietnam (US involvement) in 15 mm to include the figures, vehicles, aircraft, water borne craft, architecture, and scatter terrain?

And definitely would like to see civilians - both rural and urban Vietnamese and other nationals (a lot of US civilian employees and press in country).

Prefer metal over resin or 3D prints (pre-printed 3D, not STLs preferred if 3D).

Thanks!

Peter Pig and Battlefront/Flames of War both produce big ranges in metal 15mm.  Not sure how well they mix together. The Battlefront figures are only sold in "large" platoon packs, whilst Peter Pig are in his usual 8 figures packs. Peter Pig's range includes civilians and buildings and other accessories.  Timecast also make a very nice range of buildings including some "urban" ones to complement the more usual jungle hooches. In UK I think the Battlefront Vietnam range is sold exclusively by Callver Books.

I'm using them together, though usually not on the same base.

Battlefront Vietnam game tanked pretty hard here so 25-40% off or more in places....so I stocked up. Scenery wise Sarissa Precision MDF buildings for North Africa/Colonial ccan be turned into nice Hue city streets. Well, I'm planning too anyway. The rest I can scratchbuild.

Personally speaking, I use Flashpoint Miniatures as I'm a fan of Anton Ducrot's old sculpting style. 3D Breed recently did a Nam kickstarter and there's plenty of good vehicles in that lot. For buildings, I use Lazy Forger's "Tropical Huts" scaled up to 18mm and they look great.

The Battlefront/FoW NVA are quite comical! They tried sculpting a star on the helmet, but it was crudely done, they look like miner’s lamps 🤣

As with gunbird, in my local shops there are piles of FoW ‘Nam at usually half off.

The US aren’t awful, but be prepared to file off the lamps on the NVA. Or do a mining what if 🤡

The vehicles also aren’t horrible.

I have a deep loathing of Battlefront's WW2 vehicles, I expect the same problems of extra-high suspension and poorly fitted pieces would carry over to their Vietnam range too.

I've seen good reports of mixing Flashpoint & Battlefront US infantry with Peter Pig for ARVN, Montagnards, VC, and NVA where the smaller size of PP works quite well.

Yeah, the vehicles aren’t much better. Not horrible, like I said; they’re also definitely not great.

Haven’t seen Peter Pig in the flesh, but I do like photos of them!

I have some of the Montagnards to use for the warband figures in a DBA Medieval Vietnamese army, they're nice.
