Hi!

Welcome and thank you for your interest. I enjoy playing Kings of War and Oathmark, but while searching for a new human army I didn't find any miniatures that I liked. So what do you do? You model your army yourself.

I like the aesthetic of the Lions of Alahan, a faction of the Confrontation game from the late 90s. However, the miniatures are either quite expensive or the army entries don't really fit. Therefore: model yourself.

So follow me into the depths of my imagination and the capacity of my 3d printer. ;)

Oh yes: I've been working on this project for a while and will probably continue to do so for a while. So there will be a lot of pictures. ^^

So let's start with Basilea, first there is the Paladin Foot Guard with sword and shield as well as two-handed weapons. I'm currently modeling the unit leader, musician and standard bearer, they'll come next.

First testprint:

By the way: Since I've only been modeling for half a year, there may still be small errors here and there. Don't be afraid to criticize me, that's the only way I'll get better. ^^

Cool concept! It’s a lot different from the grubby dark ages style of the images in the Oathmark rule book, but I am sure they will be just as much fun to play with. I’m looking forward to seeing them once they’re painted.

Not a fan of unit based games, but these are really nice.  The poses and their equipment are spot on!!.

These are really good - have you created these from scratch, if so very impressive 3d sculpting/modelling!

I like these more than the Mantic take on Baselia - these look a lot more human in their proportions.

Thanks, glad you like them. :)

Yep, they are sculpted from scratch. Everything made by myself so that I won't have any problems.

The Human proportions are mostly because of the online courses i took to learn the 3d modelling. They were not really optimized for miniature sculpting, rather online games etc., so the proportions had to be realistic and not stylized what you mostly see. That brings its own problems but i think it's ok. After all, i am still learning everyday something new.

Yeah, unit based games were something i had my problems with, too. But if nothing else is being played, you have to adapt. I actually like the games now, even though I try to promote skirmisher every now and then. ;)

Yes, the dark ages styles has it's own charm, but i like my models a bit more high fantasy. Sometimes even a bit too high fantasy and "sterotypish" if that word exists in english.

Painting will be done, of course. But i still haven't decided on the paint scheme.

Excellent work on the digital sculpting then - and I think a good thing they look more realistically proportioned. I think you could look at selling these STLs

Thanks :)

I revised the militias or swordsmen and printed them as a test.

I also painted some paladins to see if the color scheme fits, but i am not really happy with the scheme.

I will rework the command units for the swordsmen and spearmen next.

May I ask which program and tutorials you used? I've trying to wrap my brain around 3d modelling, but never found a good place to start. Your results after just half a year are impressive!

Sure! I'm working with Blender. The first course i started with was this one: https://www.udemy.com/course/character-sculpting-with-blender/  After that, all courses i have done were mainly from this creator: https://www.udemy.com/user/nikolay-naydenov-4/

The workflow was basically:
https://www.udemy.com/course/character-sculpting-with-blender
https://www.udemy.com/course/3d-character-sculpting-in-blender-viking-edition
https://www.udemy.com/course/demon-huntress-in-blender-course
https://www.udemy.com/course/3d-female-armored-assassin-in-blender-course
https://www.udemy.com/course/head-anatomy-and-sculpting-exercises-course
https://www.udemy.com/course/super-human-anatomy-course
https://www.udemy.com/course/female-anatomy-for-artists

All in all, I worked through around 100 hours of video material, some of which I watched three or four times. If you add the working time that I actually worked on the models, you would have to come to around 500 or 600 hours. But it could be more since I didn't keep track of the time it took to make them. Most of the time I sat in front of the computer for 9 or 10 hours. Yeah i'm crazy. ^^'

In the end, I still lack a lot of practice in many things. But what I can say is that Nico does really good courses that contain a lot of information. And lots of singing, life advice and good music recommendations. ;)

I printed the Spearmen und Swordfighters, including the champion, musician and standard bearer:

I hope that I will have the crossbowmen ready by the weekend so that I can print them for testing:

The next unit will be the Sisterhood Infantry and Scouts. I'm still at a loss for how to design them but i hope i'll get an idea over the next days... O.o
