Agis' Age of Sigmar Spearhead forces
« on: August 02, 2024, 08:25:52 AM »

The 4th edition of Age of Sigmar brings a well playable Spearhead (Skirmish) play mode. My Sylvaneth Spearhead force is a mixture of GW and CMON miniatures.

The Sylvaneth Spearhead army consists of the following units:
GENERAL
Branchwych

UNITS
1 Treelord (Black Goat of the Woods)
3 Kurnoth Hunters (Dark Young)
5 Tree-Revenants
GWs Treelord and Kurnoth Hunters are IMO a bit goofy looking. And since I have a ton of suitable other minis around I decided to use minis from the "Death may Die" Cthulhu game.

Very small conversion on the General Branchwych mini.
For the Tree-Revenants I used the Spite heads but kept the Tree-Revenants weapons. IMO the Spite heads are better fitting to the darker Cthulhu influenced theme of my Spearhead force.

And the next Spearhead...

The Maggotkin Spearhead army consists of the following units:
GENERAL

– 1x Spoilpox Scrivener (Fecula Flyblown from the Underworlds Wurmspat)

UNITS
10x Plaguebearers of Nurgle (GW Sludge-Grubs and Cursemites from the Gellerpox Kill Team, again the original Plaguebearers looked IMO not serious enough)

5x Putrid Blightkings

2x Pusgoyle Blightlords (Mi-Go from the DUST Mythos faction)

A great bunch of figures painted very, very nicely. The two factions so far look awesome.

I also love to build some faction specific terrain or objective marker. Below you can see two example that can be used instead of the terrain that come with the Skaventide box.

Left is the terrain out of the box, right some twigs out of the garden, plus a scibor tree head and a plastic branch from the Sylvaneth Dryads box.

Right the terrain out of the box, left again some twigs out of the garden, plus a scibor dead tree and a plastic spite again from the Sylvaneth Dryads box. Sylvaneth are often accompanied by faerie-like beings called spites. These creatures are highly magical, and incredibly diverse in form and temperament.

These are beautiful warbands for sure. The attention to detail and overall theme is very consistent and pleasing to the eye! Inspiring too.

Stoked to hear what your feeling towards the game will be when you play; are you worried that you'll dislike the game after all that work?!?

Thanks

I was indeed a bit worried.
The current 40K for example is again way to complex for me.

Anyway, Spearhead is a GREAT game. It has a distinct GW feel, still no alternate activation, mass dice rolling etc.
BUT - they put a lot of effort into the the design to soften the impact.
The turn by turn decided underdog system is a great twist.
All in all very enjoyable.
