Far East/Pacific WWII 20mm project
« on: August 07, 2024, 03:43:47 AM »
All enthused by the new Far East book by Too Fat Lardies, I decided to jump into this project and to bring it to a playable level.

I'm slightly torn in that my main interest is New Guinea, post the Kokoda track and yet, the PSC campaigns in Malaya are of real interest.  Also noting that the Far East book does not cover New Guinea.  Anyway, I decided the Commonwealth forces will be in Jungle Green (JG) even when doing the 1942 games as I don't see myself painting another Commonwealth force, maybe  ;D.  Luckily the Japanese will suit all of the war.

First up is the Japanese platoon.  Figures by Eureka, 1-72 and Simon's Soldiers

The Chui and Gunso

The grenade discharger section

And one of the rifle sections
Gods, monsters and men,
Will die together in the end.

Great looking chaps *thumbsup*

Far East will be a project of mine too (but 15mm instead of 20mm) starting around the end of the Year  8)

Another PTO project and off to a really good start well done the figures and terrain look good.

So the TFL’s Far East book will just be Asia and Sub-continent not a full PTO release pity, I should keep an eye on the forum more regularly 🙂.

Also note the Lardies 2015 Christmas Special includes a great Malayan Campaign game.

Looking good Ragnar!
Seems like we're on a similar track  :)
Only mine is 28mm.

Thanks people.   :)  I'm actually looking forward to seeing other's similar projects for inspiration and eye candy, in any scale.

@Captain Darling, you're probably aware that there is the PTO book in the pipe as well?  I just hope that the recent website clusterf*** has not affected that release.

I needed a Japanese engineer with a demolition charge but could not find an appropriate figure, so I converted a tank hunter with Milliput.  20mm figure by Simon's Soldiers.

And recently completed stuff.  Two Ha-Go, a couple of snipers, an FO and riflemen.  Tanks by 1-72, figures by Eureka, Simon's Soldiers and 1-72.

The conversion is very well done, especially the dynamic pose fits perfectly!

And again great painted reinforcements for your growing force  :-*

Something about 1/72 looks more realistic than 28mm. Nice work.

Thanks for the kind comments.

Another update and the final for Japanese for a while as I reckon I can run the first game of the campaign with all options available (or fudged).  The tanks have now had weathering powders added.  The satchel charge chucker has been painted and some other options also painted.

The Ha-Gos

Demolition and flamethrower teams

Tank killers

70mm infantry gun

All together now
