A whole bunch of AB French (and not a base in sight!)
« on: August 07, 2024, 03:52:05 PM »
Heyhey, here's a good bunch of 15mm AB miniatures French I painted. I'm not allowed to base them though, so the photos show them on their paintysticks.

4th Chasseurs à Cheval (the first picture showing the command stick falling over):

11th Line (with loads of eagles :) ):

Now we make a jump back in time, with the following units:
3rd cavalry:

1st Hussars:

Generic line infantry:

...and their Voltigeurs, skirmishing:

Foot Artillery crewmen:

Various generals, officers and AdCs:

Chasseurs a Cheval of the Imperial Guard:

...with their hand-painted flag, because for some reason it was cast onto the flag pole. Also, you probably noticed that two generals snuck into their ranks as well

Horse Grenadiers of the Guard:

...and here's two more AdCs, an officer and the Guard Chasseurs' trumpeters:

Hope you like them! The unbased state isn't perfect for presentation, but I have high hopes to at least see many of these figures in real life (and fully based) at some point in the future. AB figures are just really cool to paint. It's weird, but these were the first Napoleonics I painted all year! Glad I could rectify that sorry state of affairs. :)

My goodness! No photos of my hodge-podge of French from lesser sculptors and much lesser painter (me).
And the glorious general led the advance
With a glorious swish of his sword and his lance
And a glorious clank of his tin-plated pants. - Dr. Seuss

@OSHIROmodels: Cheers. :D I couldn't bring myself not to include that picture. You rarely see miniature photos showing them in movement.

@Ray Rivers: Thanks! I really hope to see them based-up in person some day.

@dickiegranthum: Thanks, very kind.

@Count Belisarius: Thank you! It's very nice to get such positive feedback. Over the past years I started posting fewer miniature photos (no WIPs any more and such), and I very much feel the impact on how I think of my paintjobs with less of that positive feedback. It's really weird and shows the brittle confidence I got in my skills. :D

@MaleGriffin: Cheers!

@Jacksarge: Oh yes. :D I mean I very much enjoy painting 15mm units, especially Napoleonics, but some things just tend to drag a little. Especially when I got to the officers/generals/AdCs I experience things screetching to a halt because each one of them is a character and I see how I can make them a bit more individual-looking. A friend very generously supplied me with his great resources on generals' and AdCs uniforms of the period (I have a bunch of literature and reference pictures myself, but especially on AdCs I had next to no uniform plates, and literature mostly says "the officers took a lot of free reign when it came to clothing their AdCs".). And of course the huge units of guard cavalry took a good while. :D But they look great. I never painted Guard Grenadiers a cheval before, and they got super snazzy uniforms.

@CapnJim: Cheers!

@Bloggard: Thanks, Sir! Much appreciated.

@vtsaogames: Which sculpts do you use? I mean AB figures are usually considered the top of the line (and come with a bit of a price tag). A friend of mine who plays pretty much 15mm exclusively actually prefers Campaign Games miniatures, which also look really lovely.

Thanks for all the positive feedback, guys. I very much appreciate it.

Pretty much everything, acquired over the years. My 1812-1815 Prussians are almost all AB and are quite lovely, though painted just by me. Some of them are Fantassin, now called Warmodeling or such. Being pretty doesn't make them super troops, what with all the Landwehr. My Dutch-Belgian and Brunswick troops are Campaign Games. My Austrians are Battle Honours with some Minifigs. The British were purchased painted from eBay, I think Tin Soldier. Lesser sculpts. The French have old Hinchcliffe, Old Glory, Blue Moon and various figures of undetermined origin. One of the Fencibles has a Russian army of Minifigs. Bavarians from Minifig, Nassau troops from Old Glory.

Edit: I see Campaign Game requires me to accept all cookies in order to peruse their catalog. Too bad, keeps me from looking.

Campaign Game figures have sturdier bayonets and flag poles, as do Blue Moon. I like the Blue Moon infantry, haven't seen any of their cavalry yet.

Oh yes. Now that you mention it. They word it weirdly, you gotta go to "More Information" or what ever the other option is, and then you can deactivate third party cookies. I'm a big stickler when it comes to cookies, because they're unnecessary trash and part of what got the internet to the state it's in now. Very happy once these things are outlawed or something. I suggest the excellent Ghostery browser extention which as an auto-opt-out for cookie banners, which works remarkably well for tons of websites. Not Campaign Game Minis' though, it seems.

Great painting!
Love all of them but the uniform of the Chasseurs a Cheval of the Guard is special.. also the staff and ADCs, I am now back to Napoleonics with Rheinbund contingents for GdA 2 but the outlook of ADCs in German speaking armies seems to be a bit more “sober” (as far as I understood, at least, no hussar style uniform, for example..)
