Anyone watch “SEALS” and dig their models?
« on: August 20, 2024, 12:27:21 AM »
There’s not a lot to watch lately, so I’m watching the show “SEALS”. A vampire turned FBI agent becomes the leader of a tier-one team - you know, that old chestnut.

I’m not talking about gaming post-2000 per the board rules, and to be fair many of the scenarios in the episodes are fairly universal - some ship piracy, narco/kidnap jungle stuff, and of course some sandbox stuff, and also lots of interesting breaching problems and run-throughs.

To the point…

They use some really cool mockup models for planning their ops. Like, probably some professional hobbyist out there’s made them for the show. Of course, in the show, they just magically appear, but they would take a week to make, or more.

Anyone caught any of them? If not, watching the show just for the table inspiration is worth it. Mind you, I’m still in the first season.

Sounds like it would be a good show without the guy being a Vampire.
Not sure what that adds.

That’s a joke - that actor who plays the team lead also was Angel/Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and he was an FBI guy on Bones.

Cultural reference humour sometimes misses.  o_o

Example: an oil rig taken over by a fictitious new group!

Check out all that 3D playable inspiration.

After the first season of The Strain, I was almost excited to see a special forces vampire solving crime, but I did get the reference just in time. If barely...  :D

I've watched the show for about 6 seasons. It slows down in later years due to more focus on relationships, the home front, some in-team intrigue etc. But overall I really enjoyed the show and it's absolutely a great source for tabletop scenarios.

The breaching models, while realistic, would require quite a bit of modeling effort under strict time restraints. I believe in one scene the CO remarks that they can't touch the model, as the glue's not completely set yet. So they do acknowledge the fact these things take time ;)

Maybe I should offer myself as a model maker to the Dutch Army. The fact that I take two months to complete an (admittedly detailed to the gills) ruined house wouldn't matter much; the glacial decision making process in the Netherlands would allow me ample time to add some extra pigments and washes at leasure anyway.

I feel a career change coming on  ;D

I knew someone who did do professional models for the Vancouver movie industry, and he was definitely not anything spectacular. He just had the connections!
Season 3 of SEAL Team should be re-named to “The Whiny Little SEAL” 🤣

Goes from pew-pew to ew-ew! Soap opera.

Told ya  :P

That model is indeed pretty cool, and if the floors would be loose, it would be an awesome skirmish board centerpiece! I sort of recognize it; was that from the South American 'grab the scientist' episode?

Yep! Caracas episode. Right when the Whiny Little SEAL gets cleared hot after getting his tissues analyzed. 🤣
