Hellenistic elephant miniature heights?
« on: August 09, 2024, 09:36:30 AM »
Hello,

I'm slowly building a 28mm Seleukid army and it has come time to purchase an elephant (or two...). However, I am tight for storage space, so I'm looking to see if anyone can help identify the heights of Indian elephants (including crews) from different ranges.

I understand the Aventine nellies are 10cm/4" to the top of the crews' heads.

Does anyone know about:

Essex
Blitzkreig
Gripping Beast/Polemarch
1st Corp (80mm to top of howdah, but including crew?)

Anyone else I am missing?

Relic Miniatures also makes a range of Successor period elephants:

https://www.relicminiatures.com/product-category/elephants/

I don’t own any of theirs and don’t see any info about the complete height, though, so can’t help with that.

Don't forget the Victrix ones, they do come with a macedon crew as well though they do lack any armour on the elephant.

Thanks. Would be good to include for reference, but I'll not be paying US international shipping! :o

Relic is in Canada, but shipping will probably still be a brute.

I can't find Indian elephant gor Victrix, only pesky African elephants.

Ahhh! I didn't realise that. I admit that I see the $ sign and assume USA.

Gorgeous. Any idea how tall they are to the top of the crew heads?

Only one sure fire  Wargamer way to find out. Buy one from each manufacturer and sell on the ones that don't fit.  ;)
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.

2019 Painting Challenge :
figures bought: 500+
figures painted: 57
9 vehicles painted
4 terrain pieces scratchbuilt

The Essex Miniatures Indian elephant looks great and is a bit smaller than some of the newer behemoths.

Newline also have one (the model on 5he left) which is very similar in height and girth... I will put a ruler against them in the morning.

Nic, I'll throw another elephant into the mix. A&A Miniatures Carthaginian beast. At £10.95 for a metal elephant including howdah and three crew it is amazing value for money.....only a third of the Warlord list price!  Although listed as Carthaginian it is pretty generic and I'm sure can pass muster as a Successor beast.

Regards
